This is why IIT is not counted in the top 200 institutes in the world

Each year roughly a million students from all over the country apply for a place at the Indian Institute of technology. The university has nurtured some of the top figures in silicone valley and yet the IIT has not been able to break into the top 200 institutes in the world.

The main point obviously not highlighted, RESERVATION of 50% of the seats, you can't expect to be among the best when you want to celebrate mediocrity by encouraging 50% reservation, there's no point in arguing, we need to accept that fact that our educational institutes will never be among the best till the time we have reservation on the basis of caste, and it ll be actually advisable for international students also not to take admission here, because 50% of the students whom you ll share the class with is not there because of their merit, but because of their surnames.

Change the admission system. That's the biggest issue. You can be a scientist, even an entrepreneur, but if you are not a good test taking parrot, you won't make it, while these parrots are not interested in the Sciences

The IIT is not counted among the top 200 because the students who come here are not international level. Be it a 98% scorer or a 50% scorer, all students grew up learning through rote memory and "cracking" the question pattern trends of exams. Students dont study for enlightenment, they study to score good grades. You cant blame IIT for this, they have to reduce the education standard because: 1) Freshers are still living in the *spoon-feeding teacher student relationship* mentality. Students want teacher to give them everything, without doing anything on their own. 2) *Reservations* . How can you expect an institute to be good when it is mandatory that half the population should be technically under qualified to study there. _(ST/SC/OBC/Sports/Disability quota)_ 3) *Financing* . How many IIT alumni donate money here? Hardly any... Comapre that to US Universities that receive $millions$ from ex students. You cant expect GOVERNMENT to pay for everything, we the general public should do something with our personal pockets.

That's the thing. How those students will do research and become distinguished faculties if all they have done is rot learning to get into IITs because of the society's pressure. And when finally they pass out, they want to run from the mirage as soon as possible and pursue what they wanted to in first place.

Who gives a shit if it's IIT , NIT or any random engineering college in the country. Ratta marke athe hain or desh ke bahar jayange tho apni aukad dikh jayegi kyunki hamare pass basics hi weak hain. 4 year degree with no practical knowledge.

why is Indian govt subsidizing their education if most of the students after completing there education goes to US to settle down instead of at least serving our country for some few years before leaving ???. & .why to subsidized all the IIT students educations ..why not to those students with economical problem only...?

Hmm well mostly the only people who can get into IIT are parrots who know how to beat the entrance exams. People who are in MIT and harvard would probably not be able to pass the entrance exams.

And still worst in research cz of some who just want a job... Money will come if they produce something.. i can remeber iit kanpur not even in top 200 and still best in research..
