The Russian Military Forces arent even the 5th most powerful in the world. The Russian Military has a Conscription rate of 70%. Conscipted Soldiers arent great, or even good Soldiers . The Russian Navy is a Joke and they literally have no Aircraft Carrier battle groups. The US has 11 active and a total of 19 with 8 more fully maintained and can reach military readiness in less than 2 weeks. To even be considered a world power a nation must be able to project that power across oceans not fences and the neighbors lawn. NATO is trying to prevent a nuclear war. Russia dont have enough conventional weapons to win a war against NATO, and so if a war breaks out, they have little to loose by making it a nuclear war. Almost everyone on the planet would be dead by the end of the nuclear winter following such a war. A few rich people have underground bunkers, but society would not exist after this, so they would have to become farmers... The gasoline in the pumps would last for a while, but not forever. Maybe the few that are left would have the skills to run an oil rig and oil refinery, but if not, it would be back to the 1800s. They also need skilled electricians, as one or more of the first nukes would probably be an EMP to take out electronics in a big area... Im guessing this would also take out oil rigs and oil refineries...

There is around 20%+ ethnic russian population in Ukraine. Crimea was annexed from ottoman empire by russian and it has majority ethnic russian so it's not good argument for any war when it got re annexed by russian in 2014. Zelenskyy has repeatedly crossed redlines by stating he will take back crimea was that a joke only he could tell. He was on the war path when ethic russians were rounded up and shot dead nazi style. He could have this simply stated that they will never join NATO but to the contrary he want to be part of it asap. Zelenskyy technically can never get out russian orbit without losing most of its eastern and central Ukrainian territory as it majority russian population. The black sea has around 2 trillion barrels of 🛢 the industrial and agriculture lands areas are were russian majority.
