Some men are intimidated by a woman's success no doubt. In his case, Nick was insecure and didn't quite know how to navigate his situation. For the most part though, many men are not intimidated by a woman's success. What turns them off is that the majority of successful women just don't know how to be in a relationship with a man who makes less. It isn't surprising as women have only been truly successful en masse during the last twenty years. They have no evolutionary reference that can help them manage relationships with men who are less successful. What ends up happening is women are conflicted between cultural beliefs as old as time that favor a man being the provider and accepting their successful role as a primary provider which feminism didn't account for. There are very few successful women who can manage this conflict. That's why most of them end up alone or with Tyrone and Chad who won't stick around and be undermined either.

But we analytical minded people already knew this, the QUESTION was, that KNOWING what you said, as I implied in my comment, HOWWW to navigate or make work a situation like that?? Nick was NOT an economic failure even at that time, but only in comparison with his woman. So if this is not likely to change, how would two people WHO LOVE EACH OTHER manage to make it work??
