Love my Jags. Can't beat the super V8 in any of them. I'd have the F type all day over a 911. The XJRs and XKRs are absolute bargains. I did 150k miles in my old XJR. Couldn't bring myself to sell it. Wonderful.

Glad you got an SVR to test buddy, I miss mine on these Winter days. SVR's did not have engine covers, due to the increased output of the engine from running more aggressive software the engine was running hot in Jaguar's testing, removal of the engine cover improved temperatures by 10c, hence it got removed from all SVR's and is also something tuners advice to those tuning their S and R models. Also remember the other great party piece of all the AWD cars is the mode selector, dynamic will attempt to push 90% RWD and move power forward as required, normal is 70/30 split and snow / wet mode is pretty much 50/50 which gives it a much more planted feel in poor conditions. I loved my blue coupe SVR and loved its obnoxious exhaust with it being a 2016 model year and remote start was handy for Winter days along with the Winter pack so heated front screen and heated wheel. :)

My thoughts exactly. I bought a top specced brand new bright red F-Type SVR convertible 2 years ago, and my wife and I have driven through France to Monaco the last two years for the yacht show (where we host a party for clients). Fantastic car for the trip, and it gets plenty of favourable attention, including from the concierge at the Hermitage Hotel in Monaco, who sees plenty of to supercars. No regrets!

James, For similar reasons to yourself when I test drove a 2015 F TYPE R Coupe about 18 months a go and did not particularly like it and decided not to buy it. It was because of ride too hard ALL the time and too shouty ALL the time. So bought the XKR 75 Coupe that you review tested this week when we met up. On this F Type very interesting that it seems from this test drive review that these two problem areas would seem to have been addressed. Just the lack of touring storage space would perhaps remain as a problem for me. Once again may thanks for all your brilliant and interesting reviews.

Hello James, watching the channel since sometime and enjoying it. I drive an F-type v8s convertible with the 495hp engine(they only made it for the first year). Couple of points: The cover in the engine bay missing is a SVR thing. The leather quality of F-type is kinda rubbish. Mine has been rubbing off where the belt rests. You can turn of the screen and you can open the top with just the ignition on. Engine doesn't need to be on. But I still love the car and prefer it over a 911. My F-type is still two wheel drive, though I have no issues with using the power. I think it's actually better in 2wd. Also less heavy

Strange how most reviews say that the V6 is the 'sweet spot' in the range with an equally , albeit different , sound & more usable power than the V8 , apparently the 4 cylinder has the best handling of all due to less weight upfront. The coupe is widely regarded as one of the most stylish cars on the road , looks fantastic in grey & the Meridian sound system is usually really good in most JLR vehicles , especially positve feedback in Range Rovers & Jag I-pace !
@JayEmmOnCars
@JayEmmOnCars 5 жыл бұрын
The Meridian system in a Range Rover is totally different to the one in the F Type, that I know. As regards the V6, it is a horrible engine and the complaints about usable power came from the days when the F Type was only RWD

My favourite would be the XE with an economical petrol engine. I struggle to enjoy big heavy sports cars like the F type. If I want to have fun I'll get in my VX220. The XE sounds like a good compromise for a daily driver but yes, I would like 40mpg and will make do with 200bhp just fine.

Drilled and slotted brake rotors are worse in terms of raw stopping power and strength than a basic one, with a basic rotor you have more surface area for the brake pads to grab onto and less structural weak points. Drilled rotors are good at venting heat but all the missing metal gives multiple points for cracks to develop and an easier route for those cracks to spread. Slotted rotors are best for clearing muck away from the surface of the rotor but the downside is that there is less surface area for the pad to grab, it's similar to the trade-off between slicks and grooved tyres. I agree that for the looks they should have been a bit more interesting though, my guess for why they went for this design is more likely to do with availability than design, if you check the part numbers they're probably the same as those from a Range Rover.

I had the V6S and it was a great car, and sometimes I miss it. Heated steering wheel? Lovely. I found it lacked some overall road feel though. Almost felt a bit too light most of the time, and I never felt completely in control. I am now back in a manual Vantage and it’s a much better driver’s car. They’re both lovely, and I considered a V8S convertible... but went for another Aston in the end.

Spent a good amount of time in both a V6S and an SVR. Whilst the V6 was fast, it was almost too smooth an engine to make you feel like you were making progress (until you looked down at the speedo). The SVR was on another planet in fairness (although i think it was a 16 or 17 plate so not the latest one) but i guess it should be for £120k

regarding brakes as i understand it. steel brakes got great initial bite and if you have good pads on they're good enough and they don't really fade as much. if you drill them you can have stress cracks because of the constant heating and cooling. a good compromise is grooving them. carbon ceramics are great once you heat them up and you're not going to heat them up on the street. i hope i've made it a bit clearer for you.

The F-Type cab models are beautiful. No argument there. However, if you’re serious about touring you must go with the coupe. The miniscule trunk in the F-Type cab is a joke that immediately flags you as a poser, (especially to anyone who owns an F-Type Coupe). I’m a SCUBA diver, and I get all my dive gear and a travel bag in my coupe boot, which includes two oversized steel 120 cubic foot diving tanks that are 50% larger than standard tanks. Can’t to that in a in an F-Type cab, or a 911 for that matter.

Bit of a harsh take on the infotainment, however fashionable it is to have a pop at JLR infotainment. Turn the screen off by selecting the settings button and below screen brightness it’s there. The sat nav is one of the best I’ve used, because with a SIM card in there it’ll take into account, and display, current traffic levels. So your ETA is accurate, and you can email or sms your ETA to someone, then set the system to automatically provide an update to that contact if you’re going to be 5 or 10 minutes late. To start jabbing around on the screen randomly then get annoyed that the radio comes on really is the height of looking to be grumpy. A sim does make it better, mine never has connectivity issues, but you do need to make sure you have all of the over the air updates to the software - again, very clever you can do that. You also can download new maps to a USB and upload it to the car yourself, no need to wait for a dealer visit or worse - pay for it!! Just sayin 👍🏼

Looking for a used one of these might I recommend the V8s I believe it only came out in 2014 and 2015 but it is an awesome car with all the horsepower and sound that made these famous also it's a rear wheel drive car so you can have a lot of fun and here in the US I just bought a 2014 for under $30,000 with less than 60,000 miles on it. You can't be at that not to mention it was one owner car in an Immaculate condition

I love the newer Jags but I find that all have overly quick accelerator and brake pedals. I find the brake pedal in my friends 2015 XF S/C V6 to be very tricky to modulate. The same was true in my 2011 XJ S/C. The S/C V8 is great, though. I know that it’s a bit old school, but it really gives the cars a special feeling.

Yes, they have ruined the front end so get the previous facelift version as it's now a modern day classic 😆

Yup. True. The new face lifted model looks a bit bland and generic. Go for the older F types.

Yes and i believe there may have also been some "noise polution" regulations as well. 🙄

I would love it too, but it looks so big. Almost like an SUV. Even so, it looks good.

How reliable are these ? Both V6 & V8s have been around for ages but what are the issues ?

Love the svr... Shame the exhaust regulations have muted it a tad

A friend of mine brought a Porsche 922. Nice car but its been back in the garage under warranty more than on the road. He is very disappointed, especially after the faultless driving he had with his 911. Maybe he should look at this beast.
