What people don’t realize with young DMs is that very rarely do you see a complete package DM at a very young age. The reason why he’s exciting isn’t because he is elite, but rather because he has an awareness of the position that’s very uncommon for such a young age. Mainoo in all his glory lacks in such areas. Most youngsters develop defensive acumen in no6 as they age but he has it. Technically on the ball he’s secure and already a good recycler of the ball. With more game time, he will get more comfortable and with that comes a more expressive footballer. In a year or two if he plays more and more, he will become more refined.
@dadajulius64895 ай бұрын
I agree with everything you've said except for Mainoo not having awareness. Before the ball gets to Mainoo, he already has an idea of what to do with it. He shields the ball very well for someone of his age. As for Toby Collyer, I like him as a player. He's good on the ball, quite confident, can drive the ball forward without a fuss, tackles well and quite tenacious. He has the potential to be a very good defensive midfielder. He's never afraid to stick his leg in for a tackle.🙂

To me the only thing this guy is good at is interception. Poor under pressure and poor at scanning for the right pass, poor at making his own space, he is just the white fred with a little more strength
@thebizness55965 ай бұрын
Mainoos awareness is one of his best assets. You haven’t got a clue, just waffling. Collyer is ok but he’s not on Mainoos level in terms of ability. He’s limited and that’s OK as he can just specialise in breaking up play and playing simple passes. There’s no need to gas him up to be more than he’s not. He’s not going to be Michael Carrick or Busquets and it’s fine mate. He’ll be a good squad player but not a sure bet to be starter based on his ability. Players don’t improve technically after 14yrs of age - Arsene Wenger Don’t expect him to turn into a technical architect controlling and dictating the game because it will never happen, let’s just appreciate him for what he is and that’s a solid athletic player, with an engine and DECENT technical proficiency. He’s competent enough but he’s not a worldie. There’s no need for the added pressure let’s just see how he progresses.
@Montycarlo105 ай бұрын
Mainoo’s cut off many balls popping in the box so i’m not saying you’re wrong but not right either. But your overall point is spot on, he’s got good positional awareness for such a young age that with time he’s bound to get better
@ineshkumarsathiakumar45875 ай бұрын
@@thebizness5596 @dadajulius6489 I believe he was referring to "defensive awareness". Mainoo has exceptional movement and positions himself well to receive the ball but not as good defensively.

@willydeatheatter35475 ай бұрын
Many of you just watched his highlights only but not the full matches. Collyer has been called the best defensive midfielder of his age. His positioning, skill set, tackling was class vs Rangers and Arsenal. He needs more polishing just like Mainoo, but he already shows some promising signs to be our future 1 team player.
@steve131915 ай бұрын
it’s his pace. that’s what makes him look different to most youth prospects in that position. he is a natural runner but with open mind to play and pick a pass. ie unlike gallagher who has his head down when he runs. collyer is a runner but doesnt make running his whole personality. letting garner go was the right decision because we need this profile more than garner’s

he has the workrate and agression and is usually good defensively, minus a few mistakes. but his technical skills in possession are generally quite poor, his touch and passing need work and he struggles under pressure, he is also 20 so its not like a 17 year old Mainoo coming through, i feel like he will be sold in a few years to a mid league team after being a fringe player, like mctominay or the sorts
