Yeaa it looks so modern right now and very tourist ready.. But i don't know, for me and many people, the heart of Malioboro Street is the street Vendor. Not the street itself, but the many people that did a trading and shopping at the street. So to me, Malioboro street lose its soul for the sake of tourism.

For your information, the Balinese people were the people of Majapahit who ran away because at that time the Majapahit kingdom would collapse and lose the war, The Majapahit kingdom was the last Hindu-Buddhist kingdom on the island of Java, so actually the center of Hindu-Buddhist was on the island of Java, so there are many similarities with Bali.

The real descendants of Majapahit nobility are sultans of Java. They were descendants of the last king of Majapahit through the lineage of Sultan Agung. From my mother's side, her ancestor is a Pakubuwono sultan from 19th century, who had more than a dozen kids. It's a common thing, many of my friends are distant descendants of different sultans. They are already ordinary people and like me, already has nothing to do with current ruling sultans.

The Sultanate of Yogyakarta is an Islamic kingdom on the island of Java, but the arrival of Islam has not changed the original Javanese culture as seen from the Javanese cultural performances which are still thick with Hindu nuances, although there are Hindu stories that are Islamized, such as some wayang stories. And FYI, Malioboro has been designated as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO. Therefore, the traders who used to be a lot in the area were relocated to a special merchant area on the "Teras Malioboro"
