This is a great video. I’ve always struggled with this when I’m playing poorly. This is part early extension. I like the right rib cage feel. Never heard this before. Your video with Malaska about pushing the ground away from you or using the ground forces to rotate your hips was the only lesson that ever fixed my early extension and I thank you for that. Hitting the ball better than ever. Keep up the great work.

The golf swing has many loops and levers. Understanding the effects of opposite motions, like this video does clearly, has helped me improve my swing and correct issues quickly. Well done!

Great video Eric. I guess someone like Keegan Bradley is an exception here but his flexibility allows him to retain the angle through the downswing. Hope he’s getting treatment to stop the right crunch from injuring his back long term!

Another great video, Eric👏 I play with a slight open stance, which I find helps for this drill as does hovering the club just above and behind the ball. Doing this encourages you to get down and into the back of the ball. It is certainly working for me!👌🏻

i combined this technique with pete cowen’s twist the right arm and the concept of short game chef’s body pivot which are all in principle similar makes it a good rereference for freeing up the downswing and striking the ball solid.

The thing I get from this is balance. The brain wants to maintain balance. Upper body too far forward and hips too far back in setup creates an imbalance during down swing. So in order to keep balance we have to stand up moving the hips forward under the chest. More great instruction from Eric!

This is another really good one, it seems to be the hot topic all over the Internet right now. Another instructor was saying to have your heels about 2 to 3 inches away from the wall and your butt, barely touching the wall and maintain that in the backswing and forward swing.that has helped my ball striking to be more consistent. I’ll have to work out between your lesson and the other one to see, which works better for me? Any thoughts?

Agreed with you----whichever works best to keep your inclination to the ground in the downswing and through impact is what I would go with!

I always thought early extension was the problem. It’s actually a reaction to a poor set up. Awesome lesson!!!
@CogornoGolf4 ай бұрын
100% thats one of the big reasons! and I would start there. early extension could also be from downswing shaft being too steep, club face too open....
@rizzo7777775 ай бұрын
Ive been trying to get my right hip back as much as possible after the takeaway due all the hip depth videos out there and that's probably why it's kicking towards the ball on downswing. For golfers who do that, you're saying to keep right hip neutral and push left hip back during downswing to create the hip depth?
@CogornoGolf5 ай бұрын

Hi Eric. I think what causes people to be too top heavy at set up is they're preparing for their shoulder line to face down just outside the ball in the backswing. Is it ok to have a more upright flat shouldered backswing if in transition you rotate properly? In other words, you kinda achieve a shallowing effect in transition by steepening the shoulder line.
@CogornoGolf4 ай бұрын
Hey MJB! Usually I would say no......but if you can make it happen yes. Most who go back FLAT will come down STEEP (with shoulders and club) To go from flat shoulders to shallow most will tilt too much and extend and not turn (contact issues)

this is hard to time though if you are a beginner. the “bad stance” is more repeatable so you don’t have to think of timing the hips going back during the golf swing.

Hey Eric - I'm 6'6" and already play clubs at +1.5", still have to bend way over to get to the ground at address. Would you recommend go longer to get more upright at address? I've never been able to set up like you're suggesting!

6'5" and also +1.5". Same question...
@CogornoGolf5 ай бұрын
Yeah thats an option....also could do a touch wider with stance. Wider stance lowers you to the ground as well.... I would get together with a good coach in person or online or club fitter to work through the details and test out the options

I think this video makes your top 5 ever made? If I’m 6 2’ built like Adam Scott, could I need longer clubs than normal? Standing straighter. If I’m toe heavy divot, #1 fault for that? Thx.

I’m confused. In a previous video you stated a good way to check distance to the golf ball is when you can get a first between the butt end of the club and your legs. In the drill your just showed the club is like dang near two inches from your legs
@CogornoGolf5 ай бұрын
Hey Jonathan! Sorry for any confusion... Wont be the same for everyone.... But generally speaking.... Let's say with an 8 iron.... When you setup you want your arms to hang basically dead straight down right over your toe line Back of armpits over balls of feet, hips over ankles.... hope that helps

So wouldn’t you need to also match/change your release as well if you’re someone who would hang back a bit and have more of a CF release? This body turn would match more of CP type release (hands in more club head outside hands exit)? Would imagine the player would start hitting blocks if he isn’t aware.

Your hips want to be over your balance point at impact. That balance point is your left ankle. If you start out with your hips too far back, they will seek out that balance point in the down swing.
