Almost at the end of my 2 year MLIS program just to enter a field that will in all likelihood never make more than what I paid for tuition each year. Back when I was 25, I was on a graduate program in a big corporation and a hot girl who worked in accounting on the same floor took a liking to me. One evening in a work function we got drunk and ended up kissing, but no more. I was naturally very stressed about the situation the next day as I had this 'don't sh!t where you eat, don't dip your wink in the company in' mindset instilled into me. I ended up calling a friend who was a bit older and a bit wiser, but still young at heart for advice. He told me: "In today's society you aren't likely to stay at the same company for longer than 2-3 years. I had chances to do this when I was single at work and never took them, and now I regret it, so don't end up like me" So I went for it. We ended up seeing each other for about 4 months, then we broke up, but cause she was quite serious about her career, her behavior at work was totally rational after the break up. I moved on to another job 8 months later, but the fond memories of that hot half Arab/half Irish accountant are still with me to this day! So the moral of the story - don't listen to people who give you one advice fit all for situation like this, make your own judgement and things just may turn out ok!

The reason why we (men) are turned off by the "that's cute" comment, is because girls use it quite often to (or against) men they've put into the friend zone. It's a way of dismissing another person's feelings, without rejecting them. Which is what the friendzone is - they dismiss your feelings, but do not reject you because you're useful (either financially, physically or emotionally). So that's it Aba; we're familiar with that line from being in the friendzone or seeing other guys in the friendzone. So when another girl says it, even if she genuinely means it, we're turned off by it because of its connotations.
@thomasbrooksjr3802 жыл бұрын
So i think you're taking the rejection too personal.. dismissive means more like she gives you a nasty attitude.. seems like you need to heal.. being friends or friendzoned doesn't mean they are "just using you"
@VenVile2 жыл бұрын
@@thomasbrooksjr380 Your reading comprehension is lacking. I never said all girls who put men into the friend zone are using them. That's not what I said. What I said or implied was, that there are girls who keep people in the friend zone, because they're useful. This doesn't apply to girls who don't do that, obviously. And the girls who use "aww that's cute" dismissively, do so usually because it's a nice way of dismissing or diminishing one's feelings, while not rejecting the person, outright. And for the girls who use people in the friendzone, it is important not to reject them, because they are useful. Is that better?

Several people I knew were always dropping the same lines about how "Oh, you're too good a guy to be single! Just ask one of these coworkers out." My own PERSONAL POLICY is to NEVER date coworkers. If nothing else, it kept my name out of office gossip and I was never in the know of who was dating who. I would clock in, do my job and clock out. The last thing I wanted to do was get involved with someone, somehow it didn't work and then I'd dread going to work more than I already did because I knew I'd see this person around the office. Dating a coworker highly depends on the maturity of the people involved. I met my bf at work. We were coworkers for 3 years, went out on 1 movie date and on the 2nd date we moved in together. I eventually left that job 3 years later and I got him hired at my current job a year later. We share a 2 inch cubicle wall and we’ve been together 8 years and have worked together 7 out of those 8. We love working together and we know how to compartmentalize our work life and home life. We don’t drive to work together except on Fridays because we go to his parents for dinner, we don’t go to lunch at the same time and we complain and talk about work when we get home just like everyone else since during the day I do that with my work “bestie”. Lol. People know we’re a couple, but we don’t refer to each other as such when speaking about our relationship at work. Even when new employees come on board and ask me about his “status” I always say he’s in a relationship or dating someone. I never say he’s my boyfriend. Sometimes I’ll hear one of them trying to flirt with him from my cubicle and I just laugh.

They are smart women but work in an environment that requires order and silence. And your personality has to be similar, soft, organized, and quiet. The image of taking a woman like that, and making say the most nasty shit ever out her mouth, to do the most nasty shit ever with her body, and then to know she has to hide it to keep appearences for that job, HUGE turn on. It’s fine to date coworkers. But golden rule: don’t touch coworkers, even if you guys are friends. Especially if it is a woman, let them take the lead on that. Different people are from different backgrounds, casual touch is not a thing for some people and it can lead to that relationship being cut off completely.

As a female I’m genuinely curious, when a man is being vulnerable about his feelings towards a woman, what do you want us to say/what is the appropriate reaction to it? Because if you guys feel that saying “Aww that’s cute” (even genuinely meaning it) is condescending and I feel like saying nothing is underwhelming and kinda like giving a “f$&* you” almost what do you guys want to hear when you put it all out there? Again not looking for a fight I’m just curious to hear your perspective

Respond with something appropriate to what he said, the same you would do for any other vulnerable situation. When family or friends are opening up to you do you have a blanket "aww thats cute" type statement ready for them? no i imagine you'd listen and respond like a normal person should.

"thank you for telling me, i do/don't feel the same way" is just an all around great response because its acknowledges the fact you know it was difficult for the other person to open up

The scenarios in which most people encounter the phrase 'aww that's cute' is when a lady is petting a tiny animal or playing with a child. To me there's just an association with the word 'cute' as a patronising/demeaning term from the male perspective. Most men don't want to be cute lol. Words have power. I reckon it might be better to say: 'wow, thank you for being open and vulnerable with me, I appreciate that', that also sounds more genuine than a canned line.

For me, if she says "aww, that's cute" or something like that, I would feel like I'd be treated like a child. I'm not a boy. I'm a grown ass man. Telling my feelings ain't cute. It's hard to do and we mean business when we're vulnerable. A comment I read. "The reason why we (men) are turned off by the "that's cute" comment, is because girls use it quite often to (or against) men they've put into the friend zone. It's a way of dismissing another person's feelings, without rejecting them." Just reject us, lol. What wonderboyTheArtist said is a perfect response. "thank you for telling me, i do/don't feel the same way".

I love books 📚🥰 My husband pokes fun at me all the time because I've got a 100 ebooks on my phone and yes I've read them all. My husband's from Mexico and I really like that he has traditional values because I do too. I'm American but my mom's parents came from a farming village in Ireland and they didn't play with this modern woman bs that's going on now😂😂 Now that I'm a adult I'm actually grateful for how I grew up. We met 5 years ago working in the same restaurant and we're still married💖💖

Aba, you don't like a girl commenting on you as cute because it is generally understood that something is cute when it's of lower stature etc. Obviously men are gonna have a problem with being labeled as cute because we have massive egos when it comes to our masculinity. If our ideas or behavior is labeled as cute, that communicates to us that they're perceived to be of lower significance/quality. Kids trying something is cute. Because they're tiny and stupid and it's cute. That's how you feel when you're labeled cute, most likely. We wanna be good, skilled, looked up to. Not looked down upon like a child whose ideas aren't taken seriously 🤔

It really ain't that deep tho. The point is to say that she is only setting the mans up for hope but in a pretentious way. If she really wanted you, she would be hella hyped as fuck to be with you (NB: not that I'm using you, Nicoladen, as an example, I'm just trying to make a point) In that situation, one can say that it's an "ego thing" as you put it, or it could be really be seen as a "get the hint" thing.
