Bobtail is not difficult. But you gotta pay attention. The outfit I'm with now had a bobtail rollover and the driver died. He was at speed 55 to 60 on the interstate Came thru a limited sight interchange traffic stopped dead. I've bobtailed most everywhere. Understand all the weight is on your steer so your rears hop when you brake . Not as bad with abs but it will given the right scenario. Thank Pepe
@canyontiger40223 жыл бұрын
I’ve been driving for coming up on ten years and I’m still uncomfortable with bobtailing at highway speeds. Tractors aren’t designed to be without weight. Period. 55mph max is my rule with a bobtail.

Cool video Josh! Quick and easy. VERY cool that your "tanker tube" has multiple uses. I noticed in the tanker video that it could be used that way and, how about that, I was right!! Also, I continue to respect your commitment to blocking as few lanes as possible. Some people do not realize how important that is. Having done this type of work before, I do.
@PepesTowingService3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is billed and designed as a tanker tube / lifting beam depending on the position. So far all I've used it for is a lifting beam lol, need a proper tanker to really test it. And you are so right, people love to say "I could have done that without a rotator!" Why yes....as can I, but can you do it all from the shoulder as fast as I can without killing any lanes?

Saw the result of a wreck on eastbound I-70 about 6 miles west of Zanesville Ohio yesterday. Driver went right of guard rail at an overpass. He went up the embankment between the end pillar, flipped on side then exploded on the pillar. Truck, trailer and load strewn over landscape and road and into WB lanes traffic backed up for miles. Huge mess and loss of life.

Hey Josh I was talking to Sumter Wrecker last night and they are looking in to getting a Rotator. I drive to Chattanooga Tennessee a couple of times a month and man Miller has a HUGE lot of recovery vehicles. Tow Porn. :) BTW nice job pulling the Mack out.
@joeacosta50113 жыл бұрын
Sumter's first question to answer has to be " Do we want it or do we need it ?" Once you establish that it is absolutely essential to have than it's off to the drawing board. John L. Hawkins III from Miller Industrues will guide you to the right people. As for my advise, the 50-ton is an absolute gem. It can lift 25 000 lbs. at 37' out and has dual 50,000 lb. winches. You of course have 16,000 lb. auxiliary winch option, 35k-50k drag winch option, different underlift options like the knee boom. Don't get me started. God bless your decision whatever it is.

Why not use a tagline, giving the guy on the ground some leverage on the truck?
@PepesTowingService3 жыл бұрын
Tag lines are great when needed, mainly when there is a lot of play in the cables and turning is easy. In this case, it was not. Physically impossible for the truck to turn, a tag line would have been harder to pull then physically pushing on the tractor.
