For real world spirited driving trust me you dont need more than 343bhp especially in the uk. This car is still scary fast and holds on like rails when cornering, trust me age is only a number when it comes to the e46 m3 performs like the best of them. A fantastic choice, especially in Ruby Red. Don't mod it as that will devalue it. For those that know the e46 M3, like the e39 M5, provides a raw, visceral experience. The s54 won the International Engine of the Year award outright in 2001 and the 3-4 litre category from 2001- 2006. It was second to the Zonda S in ECOY 2001. By comparison the e92 M3 came 5th & the F80 9th out of 10. The car is focused, compact and raw. I've owned a lot of cars like a 996 Turbo with a powerkit, a Carrera S, an e92 M3 but the e46 was the best driving experience. It does not make it easy & requires commitment, you have to drive it but the more you put in the more you get out.

Love my 2004 M3 to death... absolute money pit; Dual VANOS rebuild, valve adjustment, full suspension refresh F&R, RACP repair/reinforcement, high performance head gasket replacement, high perf rod bearings replacement (re-designed w/ extra clearance between bearing & journal).. we haven't even gotten to performance mods yet. $5k+ in parts alone and I'm still smiling... just an absolute blast to drive each day to and from work! Can't wait for the list to get completed so it can be tested on the track!!

By far the best BMW creation alongside the E39 M5. Best models in my personal opinion which I feel some features have been replicated slightly in the F10 model. The owners face is priceless....the fear in his grin is immense 😂

I have a 2005 E46 M3 in Imola red with a cinnamon interior. Even though it's a soft top, I track it all the time because I spent a small fortune on brakes and aftermarket suspension. All stiff polyurethane bushings too, so the car is quite stiff despite being a soft top. So far the car thrives on a very long race course in Sebring Florida. 3.7 miles of pure joy. Actually some of the track is in horrible condition, and you need really good suspension to drive fast over it. I beat much much faster cars on that race track 223 Superior and Lee of my modified M3. Trust me I am only a novice driver but I beat all the Porsches and most of Corvettes. Or I should say my car beats them. 😎 I will never sell my E46 M3.

I'm on my second E46 M3 (2003 Titanium over Gray 6MT) and have watched many videos about them. There's really nothing new in this one besides the young owner practically wetting himself in the passenger's seat. What is different about this one is the car. Ruby Red over Champagne (schwing!) and pristine both inside and out. Beautiful car!

Rev limit is indeed 8000rpm stock. But they make peak power of around 325hp at just below that. If you get a good remap (such as Evolve) you'll get back to 340hp at peak rpm. A good intake such as CSL or Eventuri can give you another 10hp. But what this car really needs is lower gearing so most guys fit a 4.10 final drive (max theoretical speed down from over 200 to 180, which makes more sense given the engine power). The AP brakes are a must. Other things worth doing: supersprint exhaust, 330d SSK, remove clutch delay valve. If you value handling then good coilovers, else just stick to stock suspension for a balanced ride. As you say seats are nice, but are a bit heavy so a good way to save weight is to install recaro sportster seats. There's loads of other things too like getting a proper LSD upgrade (like a Gripper) as the stock one is very clunky and slow to react. The main things maintenance wise are subframe connecting points, which require a brace (Vince brace) to resolve completely. Worth changing engine bearings after 100k miles, and keeping an eye on Vanos and HG too.

AMoushi SMG, just make sure it’s a 2004-2006. It has the SMG 2 transmission in it and is much more reliable. I currently have a 2005 BMW M3 in interlagos blue. I daily it everyday and love every second of it. If you planning on driving it daily I would get an SMG, but if your saving it for a fun weekend car definitely get a manual!

It makes me laugh with people in the comments saying he's daft for paying £21k for it, admittedly it is high and for the colour combination it doesn't seem like a great deal, I am presuming the cars low mileage and on the basis it is if it was in the sought after black on black he wouldn't have any change out of £26k, but remember it's the last of the E46 M3's made with the last of the NA straight 6's, it has a good spec ie H&K and comes with the desirable manual box and I believe the optional 18/19's, and its been rated as one of the best drivers cars ever, they are now a collectors car and when he comes to sell it he will no doubt get his money back if not make on it, yes there are cars which for the cash would make more sense ie R32, R33, RX7 etc etc but it was his choice
