I once saw a goldfish in my local small river it was at least a pound, there are houses that run along the river so I’m guessing someone put it in there from their pond or something, tried to catch it but it wasn’t interested and never saw it again most likely got munched by a pike not long after

Pike come in all kinds of patterns and colours, at least here they do. I've seen them range from off white on the bottom and camel tan on top to a deep dark green all over, with a narrow light band along the belly. As for the spots I've seen pike with just a few or none at all, or lots of small ones equally distributed like a fine mesh net, or bigger spots. Sometimes arranged in horizontal lines, sometimes vertical lines, sometimes totally random. Anything's possible. In a single body of water the colour is often similar, though not always. The pattern most always varies wildly from fish to fish, and is as unique as a fingerprint, and can actually be used to identify individual fish. I do a lot of fishing in urban areas, in relatively small canals, and some fish you almost feel like you get to know them like old friends. There's individuals I've had in the net a dozen times over the years.

Dunno if its still there but there used to be a pond near a park in my old town of melton mowbray. Some kids stole some crucian carp from local fishing lakes released them in the pond and someone put goldfish in there. They bread to make hundres and hundreds of cross breeds. You literally dipped a bait in and caught immediately
