As an Eng tech student I would say that you're doing great for someone soldering for the first time! The Internet's great, you could probably read up on pseudo joints and cold joints and then it just becomes a matter of aesthetics 😀

Are there any other options available too to attach the wires to board except soldering? Like any electronic glue/clips etc??
@irfanlutfi77705 жыл бұрын
Use jumper wires
@RiverTechJess5 жыл бұрын
Yes there are, maybe would've been better to start that way. but I want to deploy in the field and it needs to be robust which is why I'm soldering:)

Just curious, is there any reason you can’t use jumper wires?? I’m doing my Mechanical Engineering degree at UCL and my soldering is terrible too.
@RiverTechJess5 жыл бұрын
Hey welcome! Mainly because I want my thing to be robust:)

*Hopping on the train from Lausanne with some noodles right away* I'm completely worthless when it comes to soldering. I know the struggle XD

hahaha thanks for the noodles!! I feel better already;)

Honestly, I think I would pick Budapest over soldering too haha. I hope you have a good time in Berlin!

Thanks jake! I think Berlin will be awesome:D And ya Budapest was def more fun than soldering

Why don’t you use male to female connector wires instead of soldering?
@RiverTechJess5 жыл бұрын
because I want to deploy this in the field and it has to be robust

@@RiverTechJess Hi fellow aero engineer! I used to solder connections instead of using connectors with the same thought for robustness. My mentor told me to stop since soldering wires can lead to fatigue cracks with the rigid connection + stiffened wire where the solder wicks under the insulation. This was for a UAS and was a high vibe environment. Soldered wire connections are generally a no no for aircraft (especially manned) and we usually crimp everything. You may already know but FYI.

A suggestion : solder the wires on the other side of the board, at the points where the pins are already soldered. That will make the process easier and reduce the chances of breakage. Get well soon and take care!

ah thanks for the tip! And for the well-wishes:)

I know that soldering sucks. But what ever you had done is terrible. Us less amount of lead.
