The manga artist has great respect for Ultraman, a classic special effects series, and some of the alien designs in this episode mimic its iconic characters. In this episode, after the mantis shrimp alien transformed, it resembled Alien Baltan. Additionally, the giant monster is a fusion of Nessie and Godzilla. There were several parodies that only Japanese might fully understand. For example, the song sung by the alien Serpo during the mantis shrimp alien's transformation was taken from a commercial for an energy drink called Regain, which aired over 40 years ago. When Okarun transformed again after being stripped naked, the line he delivered-"They're still in the middle of eating!"-was a reference to a line from the drama Kita no Kuni Kara, which aired 50 years ago.
