Jason, did you happen to notice, that on your lock plate, the tail of the animal moved as well. Probably when slid over, locks the cover plate in place. So maybe not old at all, maybe a novelty newer item.

Good luck in Tishimingo! (I was raised in OKC). You guys will probably love it. Haven't been to Tishimingo since I was a teen, (many many moons ago) had fun, but teens usually have fun. Be grateful you're not going to...nah I won't say it. Left in 1975, & haven't regretted it a bit. Still root for the Sooners, OK State, & even Tulsa, though. Good luck to all!!!

Paul is right about the gilt, you can also have silver gilt. Fantastic hunt.

No you can not. You can have silver plate, you can have a silver wash. But gilt (and gilded) MEANS gold. One and the same word. You can have different colors of gold, due to slight variations in secondary metals like copper and silver, but it is still considered gold.

Those GW buttons were very common at the start of our new nation, with the size of them and two holes punched through it could of been used as a tail weight for the coat styles of the time. congrads
