I love that you noticed that. Only after watching the video did I realize that Lily gives input like a proper caving team member. She believes what she has to say is just as valid and possibly the right way to do things. I realized I need to be careful to listen to her and go her way on some of these things. It's all too easy to continue to operate as if I'm in charge. I don't need to be in charge. But also yes it was hilarious. She was the gamer on this trip

I've always wondered while watching Caveman Hikes: caving must be costly in terms of shredded shirts and pants. What is the way to go: buy durable but expensive clothes or buy cheap and disposable ones? Usually, for camping and buscraft one buys the good stuff like merino wool and other, non-cotton materials. Is the cotton not bad in terms of being cold and not wicking moisture? I love this channels, showing the beauty of caving and how not to freak out in tight spaces.
@EvenDarker
@EvenDarker Жыл бұрын
Great question. Cheap and disposable! I do have proper gear which cost a lot more but I generally save that for longer Expeditions or particularly dangerous caves where I just need to have excellent gear. Otherwise we just buy cheap stuff in bulk. We haven't tried to make much money from KZbin but we have made enough to purchase our gear and so the hobby is funded and that's been helpful. For most of our trips I'm just trying to dress for comfort. I found reasonably comfortable waterproof socks so I usually wear those so that no matter how wet it is I Stay dry. I don't mind getting wet legs as long as it's not for days on end. If I'm going to be out for a couple days I wear a waterproof caving suit. It's not very comfortable but it keeps me warm and dry. Most of the caves around here are basically freezing.

Morning, this was a my kinda hike for sure. The entrance to the first cave was great. When I was younger that was a playground for me. I can't say that now. Lol. I would have still enjoyed getting up the entrance. This actually reminded me of when I would take my two daughters up and hike the Ape Caves. A fun trip. Thanks!

6:18 That cave is such a weird shape; how do you suppose it formed? A lava tube outlet, but the striations? ( it that a word? ) are at such a wacky angle on the right side looking out. Does it look like the ceiling rock has come down as a slab, so possibly hiding a much deeper previously accessible lava tube into the hillside? You find so many amazing places!

Now this guy squeezes threw the craziest tightest caves that is jus insane but acts like a 10 20 foot little climb up a hill that leads nowhere and has absolutely nothing to be afraid of no dangers at all keeps repeating on how dangerous it is to going up and down it worst happens trip goin up or down and maybe get skinned up sliding to the ground that's 10 foot down lol I'm jus saying it's odd hearing that coming from this fearless fella that puts his life in danger prolly almost weekly or Dailey crawling n squeezing in caves that is literally life-threatening like Jon Jones at nutty putty cave style dangerous
@EvenDarker
@EvenDarker 9 ай бұрын
Yes, this cave is more dangerous than any of the small crawly caves we go through. This is why people get hurt. They don't know what the real dangers are. The primary danger in most of the caves we go through, not one person has ever mentioned. This basically serves to remind me that doing something vs watching someone do something are two completely separate activities which are barely related

Yeah who knows how long. There are some very interesting rock formations out here but some of them are difficult to hike to. Climbers know about most of these in the area. That's where we get a lot of our caving information is from the climbing community

I find it hilarious he's talking about cavey things and shes just chillin behind him making funny faces 😂 i dunno if its intentional or it its just a thing kids do whenever they're on camera (for me i always have to throw up a peace sign). It just makes it seem like a more old-school organic family outing home video VHS, designed more as something to play at family get togethers than a youtube channel. Maybe that's why, as a whole, the family is so popular, and a lot of people tune it. It doesn't feel forced like a lot of other family youtube channels, just a family who enjoys exploring the outdoors together and occasionally going into very very tight caves
@EvenDarker

It was hilarious huh. It's because she had never used a phone with that reverse-facing camera. I figured it would occupy her using it as a mirror while she kept it pointed at me. Otherwise she would get bored. Lilys always been a face maker. You should see the footage that I edited out! It was like faces for 10 minutes straight. Thank you for the kind words. I had no ambition to make a KZbin channel but I do like making videos and the theory was I thought it was possible to be successful without the standard KZbin narratives. Without begging people to like and comment and just stuff that annoys me to no end.

It might depend on the phone you use. The dual camera was available on the Note 20 as well as the s22. I now have the s23 so it's not only dual camera but both sides are image stabilized and that makes a big difference. When it appeared on the Note 20 it was just an update to the phone from Samsung directly. So I bought the phone without it and then it updated and had it. So it's not an app it's just the native camera. And it used to be called dual camera but now it's called directors view. It's under the settings in the phone's camera app. I do really find it useful for a lot of things

@EvenDarker
@EvenDarker Жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm not sure. It's good to keep in mind that all the world is lava because that's what's under all of this. So it's a kind of volcanic event that's not producing Lava Tubes but it does produce those big rocks. The big rocks are like giant lava formations that poke up from underground.

Yeah but it's like anything in life where the moment we found the opening it was a good pop in our emotions and that was kind of worth it. Mini caves just start as small holes and take a lot of digging and it's boring until you get inside. This was kind of the opposite. Exciting at first but then nothing.
Jacob is still King of Claustrophobia
