Along with Pete and the goblin, i think alice and Susie are optional sidekicks too. I might wanna vote Susie, though I don't know if cow punching is required. I'm pretty sure there's a spot on the map that'll let you talk to her. In addition to the last horse to choose from, you can also get needles from haystacks and shovel up dung.
