A 50’ length for the air compressor hose seems just perfect. That’s what I have and I really like it. It’s long enough without being too heavy or cumbersome. If anything, I would buy another 25’ section to add on or two 25 footers if needed. I can’t remember if mine is good for 250 or 300 psi (think it’s 300), but it’s plenty strong and the flexibility is still there. That mount you have is really nice and will definitely come in handy. I’d probably do the same if I used my compressor more often. I just have the basic Porter Cable pancake style compressor though, which is mostly used to air up tires. It’s a great unit and I always appreciate having it. I would recommend it to anyone. I lucked out and got it on sale for $70 off. The $99 for it, $30 for the hose, and $20 attachment set only added to $149 and tax at Lowe’s, so it was a great deal. I’d gladly buy it again. No buyers remorse here. There’s many more tools I can add down the line if need be. Everyone I’ve known with the PC compressor just loves them.

The shop I worked for had that similar 1/2"id hose and reel on our service truck we used for a rock crushing operation the boss had. We made a 3/8"id x6' whip to plug into the end so you didn't have to wrestle the extra weight using smaller tools. The 1/2"id was great for running a small rock drill for the extra volume of air but yours is choked off being fed with the 3/8"id feeder hose going to the reel. The reel will only make so many turns before it gets spring bound so you might want to check that before getting a 100' hose. Unless you got the paperwork telling you how much hose and the different lengths and hose dia. that fits.

Metric is annoying when we're not used to it here in the U.S., but it IS simpler, everything possible is base 10. The English system is confusing to calculate with 16ths or 8ths of an inch and 12 in. to a foot, 3 ft. to a Yard, 16 oz to a pound or pint (same units for weight AND volume?!) and 4 quarts to a Gallon. Nothing is standard about it.

Little tip for new users of any spring loaded hose reels . Never let the hose free spool back in ! Years ago at work we got a bunch of 100' hose reels installed all over our machine shop and a new hire let the one on my mill free spool back in and broke the spring . I chewed him out and told the boss . So after getting a new one installed the boss who did not believe me came over and did the exact same thing . Way back then the reels cost about $380 each . Always walk the hose back in .

To yoink is to take, while to yeet is to throw. So you can yoink something out of someones hand, and then yeet the same thing out of the window. Since you were referring to taking hose off of the device, the correct verb here is indeed yoink. While you could argue that you would "yeet" the new hose on, yeet generally means to throw something haphazardly, so the careful process of affixing the hose to that device would be much too precise for yeet, maybe with a possible exception for a case where you knowingly did a lazy and terrible job of attaching the new hose.
@austingroce39602 жыл бұрын
To adjust tension on the return spring you pull all the hose out and once you get it locked in place, disconnect the hose from the reel and then let it rotate in back in about ten revolutions. Then reconnect the hose And let it pull it back in then you can adjust accordingly repeating same steps. Rotating out is more tensions rotating in is less, that heavy pull gets obnoxious fast. Just some east coast wisdom. Great layout of the shop. Will be stealing some of your ideas for sure

I have a couple cheap hose reels I would like to hang up outside my shop. I'm just worried about theft and damage from weather. So I have yet to figure out how to protect them. Anyway nice job! And you have a very nice hose reel. The larger hose will flow more air volume to power your tools. Running smaller hoses like I do doesn't allow full power out at distance for things I can't move closer to my little shop. You definitely won't have that problem.

A little trick I used when I worked on fire trucks and ambulances mounting new equipment is I would put the bracket in place and use at drill bit the exact size of the hole on the bracket and run the drill for a second or two too get exactly the center of the hole on the bracket. Center punch that hole drill it in mount bracket and repeat for the other holes. Then there’s no need to drill over sized mounting holes. 😉

Nice addition👍🏼 I loved mine so much after installation that I ended up running a couple more lines out, one to the carport and another one out to a hookup between the double garage doors for driveway air. It’s all about spoiling ourselves to by having access to air outside and in, plus the boys no longer have to access the garage to use air. I wanted to replumb one of those old school gas station air box/pumps with a coil of hose for tipping off tires in the driveway but talk about sticker shock? They’re going for big bucks these days!? I’m still looking for one and hopefully I’ll find one that needs a restoration cheap but so far but Nope! Once you have air outside you’ll never not have it again, hence the “ spoiling” ourselves😉 Looks good brother, a squared away shop makes for a happy guy. (And gal I’m sure!) Thanks for taking us along, pretty cool setup.

I don't know if that new reel will hold any 1/4" hose spliced on the end of the 1/2"(maybe 25') but the thick hose acts like an accumulator tank. 100' of 1/4" hose slows down tools that use high volume air like framing nailers, chissels and air motors. Just 25' of 1/4" on the tool end wouldn't have as much resistance and slow the air down as much as all 1/4".

pro tip. you can take pressure off the spring in the reel. if you take stopper off you can let the hose slowly and carfully unwind around a few times. you can also make them tighter the same way but other direction. its how you wind the reels tighter when they get old and the springs wear out. ( it will want to unwind fast so hold on carfully )
