i live in ipoh, malaysia...a Malay.. my fmly nd I speak fluent cantonese... my c.hood was in d 70s...and i too was a roaming and kpc girl...i was a sociable girl...and my n.hood was maj Chinese...and i picked two chinese dialects...kek and cantonese....unfortunately, as time went by and i had moved to another residence, i forgot the kek dialect but my cantonese stayed on.....until now... true, ipoh used to be a cantonese chinese community but gradually the cantonese dialect has not been vastly spoken...
