THANK YOU!!!!!!! When I first got my Helix, I immediately found the switching gap to be SUCH a pain that I basically only used my Helix for some recording work and band rehearsals (while I kept using my Kemper for live gigs). I asked the "experts" on the Line 6 forum message boards, and actually had a guy ask why ANYone would want to run their rigs this way - just use the snapshots. But no matter how I explained the limitations having to use the snapshots (for my scenario), he couldn't grasp the concept. So, of course he got all cranky and stuff. :) Apparently (to him) I was the only one who would want to run their rig the way you're describing here. Well, I'm happy to say I'm clearly not alone here. :D And what's even better is, YOU have given me the answer that the forum 'expert' couldn't! I can't thank you enough. I'll be diving back into all my rigs and settings to get my Helix to run more smoothly than it could before. Again, MAJOR thanks for this!!

I had no idea this was possible. I don't particularly like it as you would need a ridiculous amount of presets. What I do is for my 2ch presets I have 2 amps on the 1st processor on different paths, and use a stomp to route back and forth. But I use the same cab for both on the 2nd processor. I like using the same cab as it helps the tones feel more connected and compatible.

Aha...thanks for the reminder, had completely forgotten this. Cheers!

I switch between two amps all the time in my presets. You just have to put the amps on separate paths which limit you to the number of effects you can run per path (no chaining path 1 into path 2). But I use snapshots to set the volume of one path on and the other path off. One clean amp and one crunchy amp. Or even blend the two if desired. Easy peasy.

you don't always have to put 2 amps on separate paths, just depends on resource usage. I have an insane patch called "SAK" (Swiss army knife), and it goes like this: path 1a - volume - 10 band eq - weeper wah - deluxe comp - scream 808 - heir apparent - Revv Gen Red - Jazz Rivet 120 - path 1b - twin harmony - script mod phase - chorus - harmonic tremolo - path 2a - mod/chorus echo - dynamic hall - cab 4x12 cali - la studio comp - tremolo - parametric eq - 6 switch looper - output to multi (with a split a/b just before) - path 2b - parametric eq (for eq'ing xlr/1/4 inch separately Try it out, pretty fun, amazingly versatile.

You can get up to 3 depending on model if you are smart with the switching. I use a deluxe/vox with a split path together on path a with a derailed ingrid on path b I set a dedicated switch to go between derailed ingrid and the deluxe/vox pair plus another switch which controls which of the deluxe/vox I hear via split.

You don't even need to do that, you can put two amps in the chain and click one off, then assign a single switch to toggle the amps on/off. Then when you hit it, Bing Bang boom you're good.

Great presentation of a topic key to Helix. With intention or otherwise, many of us hit the wall of two SHARCs. Thanks and here's hoping Yamaha funds this amazing team of developers to refresh our beloved product now approaching age eight--yikes! Cheers and carry on please with this superb discussion of the Helix.

Since I usually always use two amps in a preset, I hope that the Helix will be powerful enough in the future to prevent this issue using two paths.

This does sound cool. Although my snap shots work pretty well for me.

I use 2 amps within one preset. A dirty amp and a clean on the snap shot

Super cool, thanks!! I think you pretty much answered my question towards the end, as I was thinking this feature would be even more useful when switching presets that have rather vast differences between each other (different cab, different IR,) instead of presets which are nearly identical with the exception of 1 different block, which may very well be able to fit on a single processor anyway.

Would be great this could be done Per Preset (in a way), not as a Global setting, isn’t it. Thanks for the vid.

Hi Jason, I’ve been tackling the problem a different way by using snapshots and having a Fender and a Marshall amp in the chain with their own cabs switching between either . However for some strange reason lately the delay trails have started cutting off when changing between amps ( they were working perfectly before ,I’ve no idea why this is happening now ) The question is if I set my various sounds up in preset spill over mode would the delay trails work between presets ? Thank you Mick

Does this work OK with say, two different delay timings? I guessing so but haven't been able to check it out yet.

So this setting being global affects all patches at the same time? Is it not possible to set it per patch so I could just go between two patches that I want clean and dirty amps on?

Maybe I'm missing something, but I already do basically the same thing with Snapshots; one amp/cab/effects setup on each path, then the Snaps turn one path of blocks off and the other on. AM I missing something? Lol. Seems like this already achieves gapless switching with fewer presets and maybe more versatility. For me it's usually it's an amp for clean and another for dirty, but if you load all the drives in front of both amps, effects between the amps and cabs (I treat the two paths as one continuous processor, so I'll just fill one path until a blocks grey out; pre effects, then amps, then time-based effects, then cabs, then post stuff), you can use the same effects with either amp in Stomp mode; in that way, I think I actually get even more versatility since I wouldn't have to add the same effects twice with either amp setup in each single path with spillover mode. I can kick in a drive or boost normally for my dirty amp with my cleaner amp instead for a bluesy or edge of breakup tone, add a phaser or something I'd normally use with a clean tone to my dirty amp for a lead, etc. Spillover would definitely work if I'd want significantly different things, like a different set of drives with one amp vs the other, but that brings me back to just filling one path one way, the other a different way, and use snaps to swap one path on or off. I've been watching your Helix videos for years and learned so much from you Jason, what am I missing this time?!

Still hearing a bit of a gap/hiccup when you switch here. That for me would still be a dealbreaker.

Thank you very much! I didn't even know the two paths are because of two processors. And one even dumber question: how do I save a Snapshot? Never figured it out 🦧
@davidyelland908
@davidyelland908 Жыл бұрын
Easy just save preset while you are in the snapshot you want to save. I usually then will move to the snapshot I want as default then save again (a preset always opens with the last saved snapshot.
