Tomahawk lake is the largest member of the Minocqua chain. At 3400 acres, this is big water, and has a big fishery to match. It is located in Oneida county, in northern Wisconsin. You'll find muskies up to 50 inches long here. It has large walleye too, but at the time of my review, they are requesting that you don't target them. They are in the middle of a walleye restoration process. This lake is loaded with deep trenches, weed beds, rocks, and sand. It is a structure fisherman's dream!

I have not been to Lake Tomahawk for years. Life is so busy fishing local has been most of my fishing. Great video as always.

Thanks Jon. I'm on a mission to fish every lake out there, so I'm doing my best to get out there even when life gets busy. The problem is that I fished most of the lakes near my home, so I have to keep traveling farther away to go fishing!

This is where my mom and dad honeymooned back in the 50’s. How romantic!!

That's awesome! I don't think my wife would go for a honeymoon at Tomahawk lake, so that's why we go there with the guys.

You should’ve spent more time at spot 1, it is a damn good spot for just about everything.

It was a big lake, and our goal is to sample as much of the lake as possible, so we keep moving on whether we are catching fish or not. We spent all day out there and still didn't hit all the good spots, but we did our best. This is one of my favorite lakes, and I wouldn't mind going there again.

@@GoMidwestFishing Yes Lake Tomahawk is really awesome and holds more than its share of surprises! Definitely worth spending some time on. A little tip: oxygen is good to 40-feet in Tom. Not much below that, which is probably why no Lake Trout as one might expect in a lake like that. Tight lines!

I know fish spook easier in clear water, but I love to see the fish attack my lures! Plus, it makes underwater filming much easier.

I guess you can see why it made my top 10 list. This video went way longer than I wanted it to be, but we caught so many fish I had no choice. Even at 25 minutes, I could only show about half of our catches.

Great job on your new venture and thanks for sharing this information with us. Big new lakes like this are incredible and intriguing 🤔 but can be intimidating. I see you using the book 📖 a lot are they really accurate? Or just a good starting point. Fun video to watch Thanks From Wisconsin

Hi Robert. These books are invaluable to me. Since we fish a new lake each time, it gives a great starting point and good info about the lake. They have just updated a lot of their books, so the info is pretty accurate. If you have an older book, the stocking data gets outdated, but most of the info doesn't change. I mostly use it for the maps and depth contours which gives me a good overview of the lake so I can find good spots to fish. I usually try all the hotspots the book points out first, then I go off and explore on my own.

@@GoMidwestFishing thanks for sharing I was a estate sale and picked one for the Shawano lake area and just so happens that’s where my cottage is to. I will check it out and hopefully this year and next year it will be very helpful. It’s a older one but should be a good help 🎣

Forget the beautiful lake and the monster bluegill at spot 7, I wanna know what editing software you switched to, and why??
@GoMidwestFishing
@GoMidwestFishing 11 ай бұрын
Alright! My first technology geek😁. I've been using Adobe premiere pro since I started this channel. It has some glitches, but you just deal with it. Well, lately it has gotten so bad that I can't even do the most basic editing without it crashing on me and losing everything I've done. Just saving the project crashes it. I hit my breaking point, and made the switch. I now use Davinci Resolve. Wow! What a game changer. This software is very powerful, stable, and its free! The one downside is that you need a powerful computer to run it, which I have, so all is good. There has been a wave of editors switching to resolve, so it seemed like the right choice for me. I have a PC so final cut pro was out. I did upgrade to the studio version of resolve for $295, just to take advantage of the GPU rendering, but you actually get about 95% of the software functions in the free version. So now all I want to know is what software do you use?

My mom was raised near there on Mid lake at our family resort back in the day. My grandpa was a guide on most of the surrounding lakes back then also. I camped overnight on that island about 50 years ago, and stayed at the Indian Mounds a number of times. You convinced me to pack up and head north with Old Boomer and do a little camping with my buddy. Want to start loading the truck now Boomer? Woof Woof!!

Oh I forgot to mention the big one I landed on the lake at about 10 years old. I fought to get that waterlogged log into the boat for quite a while. It had about 10 lures hung up on it, with a few that I was able to salvage that are in my tackle box today. Have a good one!!

Thanks, and wish I could show you some photos from back in the 40's. Stringers of giant Muskies! Folks would take the train up from Chicago in those days and elsewhere I'm sure. My grandma Bill would guarantee a big fish or you didn't pay for your stay. Could you see that nowadays? 🤠 Thanks for your great videos guys, I have watched a few more now!
