I had one, but also more recent fuji cameras, it has nice grains in the noise area that almost look like film grains, but it is really slow. Get an XE2/XE2s instead and just dial noise reduction to -2 to get the same results as the XE1, the XE2/XE2s looks exactly the same as XE1 but a bit faster and software and hardware more polished, XE2s my new favorite smaller fuji camera, I like it more than the xt30 or XE3. On trips and vacations I took the XE2s with me with the 18/23/35 f2.0 lenses and it was all I needed, nice and small and those 3 lenses are light and dont take up much space, my XT4 stayed at home.

What does S mean in X-E2s? Cuz they updated X-E2 and some people say they work exactly the same now
@forgottencameras9 ай бұрын
As someone who has owned an X-E1 for about 9 years, I will tell you it is the latter (rose-tinted glasses). I really regret not getting an X-E2 for the improved sensor. I bought it specifically to use my collection of vintage glass on it, but have had the opportunity to pick up a couple of first-party lenses for it (27, 18-50, 90 macro). The vintage glass gets the shelf. The 90mm macro outresolves the sensor to a comical level. That lens is incredible. The colors are very good, especially with Fuji glass, but it is hamstrung by the sensor only being 12-bit. This shows most when shooting gradients, which I do a lot of. I do generally like the color SOOC compared to most other CMOS sensor-equipped cameras, but the nitpicks outweigh the perceived benefits there. Note that I'm also quite spoiled when it comes to color by Foveon and now the Sigma fp, which...man Sigma did some mad science on that sensor (semi-custom version of the A7iii sensor) and the processing is fantastic. The lack of an optical low-pass (AA) filter is another reason I bought it. It is a plus in its favor. AF sucks, screen sucks, build quality is B-tier, battery is fine. Film sims don't hold up against a quick RAW edit to jpg. Subjective fun-factor is mid-high. TLDR; it doesn't suck but get an X-E2 instead if you want old Fuji; it fixes the primary issues (14-bit and PDAF) with no detriment.

I had one. The slow speed and minimal focus aids (and I use manual lenses a lot) didn't make up for the slight differences in image quality between the X-Trans I and X-Trans II sensors. In fact, when you use the ProNeg Std film simulation with a bit of extra color and the shadows turned down a bit, your X-Trans II JPEGs will be very close to the X-Trans I Provia film simulation.

I bought one of these recently and paid more than I wanted, but it seemed to be the going rate. I wanted it since it's sort of like an upgraded x-pro1 in a smaller form. I have a x-pro1 as well, and found that I missed the smaller size like that of my previous lumix gf1. The e1 is in between those two and a nice size. Good picture quality and I don't mind the slowness that others complain about. Slow is my pace. Currently using this with the mc version of the Voigtlander 40mm nokton classic.

I also switched from lumix gf1, but to X-E2. I still have and love my X-E2, even though I now mostly use my X-E4. I don't know why but it handled highlights very nicely. It's not magic and it had a lot of issues, but if you have the time to adapt to a niche camera it can have some nice results. It played well with adapted lenses but focus assistance was pretty limited. It also worked better with the 35 f2 with its softer renditions and contrast compared to some of the sharper Fuji lenses. The ISO noise felt very organic to a point. When it did "fall apart" though with the lower resolution sensor it had a very lofi element to it that you could push further. By no means the best Fuji camera but definitely one of my favorites.

Looking at the X-E1, I really CAN'T understand why the X-Pro 1 would be a better choice. With the second generation of X-Pro cameras, the advantages of the X-Pro 2 over the X-E3 were clear as day : the X-Pro 2 had double card slots, more controls, larger viewfinder, waether sealing, better screen,... I mean it was obvious to see that the more expensive body gave you a better experience even if it was at the cost of size. Not mentionning the optical viewfinder which is a really nice addition. But for the X-Pro 1 / X-E1 dilemma, I really can't see what the X-Pro 1 does better. It's not weather sealed, doesn't have a faster burst rate or a deeper buffer, it does not have a second card slot, it doesn't have more controls, the viewfinder isn't better. Only thing better is the OVF being present, but it's not like it makes the camera much more usable or anything. In fact, I would even consider the X-E1 to be the superior camera. It's cheaper than the X-Pro 1, has a diopter correction dial on the viewfinder and is smaller and more practical to use than either the X-Pro 1 and X-M1 without loosing any features like weather sealing or anything (since the X-Pro 1 doesn't have any to begin with). It really is a shame that Fujifilm didn't bother making an X-Pro camera with the X-Trans II sensor as I really feel like it's the refined version of the X-Trans I, with access to more manual focus aids, phase detection autofocus for the center points, electronic shutter up to 1/32000s, more film simulations, and about half a stop better noise performance at high ISOs. So far the X-E2 is the closes thing that we'll ever get when it comes to an X-Trans II X-Pro camera (and it has really nice EVF upgrade over the X-E1 too). The X-T1 might be a better buy though.

I have both the X-E1 and the X-Pro 1. I also own a fair amount of vintage manual focus lenses from my film days, and most of them tend to be heavier than Fuji or third-party X-mount lenses. Despite the X-Pro 1 being bulkier and heavier than the X-E1, I prefer to use the X-Pro 1 with these lenses because the resulting setup is more balanced (weight, grip, ergonomics). For the rest, I see your point and generally agree with you. Cheers! //Rick

While I appreciate the video and totally get you're trying to monetize it as much as possible, reviewing a camera and then showing virtually all photos edited with your preset (only 4 SOOC that I bothered to count) makes the video pretty useless to me personally in the #1 category of output qualities. Yes, you provide a rundown of the rest of the camera features which is useful but it only becomes useful if #1 clears the bar. We get it. You have presets for sale. Just some sharing some honest input.
@TomCalton9 ай бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. However, you could also argue that the video is useless to anyone not using this specific lens. Or if you don't shoot street photography. And if I did choose to include more photos taken SOOC, you could argue they would be useless unless I used the exact same film recipe you intend to use. I suspect I would then also get people complaining I didn't show enough RAW edits because they never shoot JPEG. My point is, if you're watching camera reviews expecting the photographer to provide an accurate simulation of how you specifically shoot, I suspect you're going to be continuely dissapointed. I create videos to give the viewer an insight in to my own personal experience using the camera. Hopefully this provides enough insight so that you can make your own decisions, however, you also have to accept that it's impossible to make a video that caters to every single person's individual wants and needs.
