The Leica 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux has been my only Leica lens to use on 4 M bodies for the past 8 years. Check out why I've been so obsessed with this lens, and my journey with it to create the most bokehlicious images 😍🥰😎

Loved your Noct homage. I had a .95 Noct for about 7 years. Sold it because I could not focus accurately. Learned later this was because of a cataract that was clouding my vision. Shortly after the warranty was up I was shooting with my M9 and Noct and fell down a volcano. The lens barrel and shade were dented (no damage to the M9…I was dented as well). I sent the lens into Leica for repair. Despite being out of warranty Leica Germany repaired the lens for no charge. No lens had ever been sent in for repair due to falling down a volcano. They like firsts. Have fun. Stay safe. Watch out for volcanos.

@@NoctiGirl If you decide in the future you'd like to try some different lenses I can recommend the 21 Summilux… this is an amazing lens for landscape work (we visited Stonehenge last year and the shots I took were an order of magnitude better than I imagined being able to take before the visit).. Currently I am using the 35 APO and 50 APO Summicrons. The detail shot wide open is stunning. Have fun with your photo adventures 😎 I'll tune in to more of your vids.

I've definitely been eyeing that 21 lux!! When I was shooting my Canon system one of my favorite lenses was that 14mm f/2.8. It was SO WIDE but I loved it for architectural shots, especially when traveling! My only hesitation with that 21 lux is the need for an external viewfinder. Won't be an issue if I use it with my M10P, but with my M6 or MP, it would be an annoyance... I'll definitely give it some serious consideration! Thanks for tuning in. More vids to come! 😊

@@NoctiGirl I bought the latest EVF for the M11 with the intent to use this when using my 21 'Lux. Thus far I have not used the EVF and have not felt the need. Frame as usual. If you are not happy with the shot, shoot again moving the camera a little bit in the direction you what to capture. Worst case merge a couple of shots to get the scene you want. I'd rather do this than use that square blob on the camera which sucks the life out of the battery. A waste of $740.

A lot of modern digital cameras and lenses look sharp...but Leica equipment are the only ones I can really think of using that retain a high quality look to the photos, but still has a natural, filmic type of look to the results. They don't look overly sharpened or super clinical. They just look completely natural. Thanks for sharing your video with us!

That's a great video. Thank you. I have the 50mm Noctilux f/0.95, too. I also have the EVF for my M10-R, the "round" EVF. If I'm trying to shoot something that's moving - while shooting "wide open" - I focus through my EVF while taking a series of shots...click, click, click, click. Usually one of those clicks will produce a great shot that's in sharp focus. I'm amazed that you don't use an EVF.

Thanks for tuning in! Yes, you are correct. A lot of fast lenses have maximum aperture at f/1.2. But what’s so special about the original Noctilux is that it contained 2 aspherical elements in the lens. Also, they weren’t just aspherical, they were hand polished. Can you imagine hand polishing aspherical lens elements and make 1,700 copies of this lens in the 60’s?! I think Leica was one of the first to do so 🤯

@@NoctiGirl The noct is all, but not perfect. No social insecurities here, i am shooting for 4 decades. Very interesting and useful, of course. The ND filter advice is very important and especially if using a film M camera. My favourite film is Ilford XP2, so an ND filter is essential. @NoctiGirl You are welcome, as always. And while you refer to yourself as a woman (biologically correct), I would refer to you as a lady; and as an Asian lady, you are blessed with youthful looks, which will typically last until you are about 90. As for lens weight, it is back-breaking, but the results really are unique and are instantly recognisable. And only 0.95 is really good enough. Other versions, however nice, aren't quite the same.

Hi Noctigirl. I really enjoy watching your video's and find them informative. I own a 0.95 Noctilux in silver finish, the same as yours. I also own a 1.2 50mm Noctilux which is always with me. I find the 0.95 difficult to focus and I really don't like resorting to using the Visoflex. I guess I am kind of a purist at heart. Anyway I am looking forward to your video on focusing the 0.95. When do you think it will come out?

Thanks for tuning in and I’m really happy to hear that my videos are informative for you! Interesting that you find the 0.95 more difficult to focus than the 1.2. Do you have the original or the remake? I personally find the 1.2 too soft for my liking 🥹 The focusing video isn’t in production yet, so I’d say at least another 2 - 3 months. Stay tuned!! 😊

If you're looking for a subject for a NEW KZbin video, I personally would like to know more about filters, e.g. what filter should I use to emphasize clouds, etc. Regarding shooting your Noctilux on a (fairly) sunny day, setting your ISO to 100 and shutter speed to 1/4000 sec. will often do better than you'd expect, e.g. if your actual (human) subject is sitting under, say, an umbrella. NDS filters are awkward if you're moving from shade to sun, shade to sun.
@NoctiGirl
@NoctiGirl 2 ай бұрын
Usually I would use a polarizing filter to dramatize the clouds! But this is for color photography. B&W is a different beast 😛 I’d use an orange filter for B&W but you should try to experiment and see what suits your style better! But I get you, you are interested in an episode on using different filters? Let me think about this! Sometimes setting my ISO at 100 and 1/4000 sec still aren’t enough for me to shoot at f/0.95… maybe f/2, that’s why ND filters are needed 🥹 but you are right, it could be a bit awkward carrying filters with you while shooting, that’s why I started wearing a belt bag where I could loop my filter pouch through and sometimes a light meter so I can go “hands free” 😉

@@NoctiGirl The London Underground (subway) is impressive in a sense that it is the World's first subway system, the first section opened in 1863, virtually all the lines are at least 117 years old, yet irrespective of it's age, it runs very well to the point where American tourists are very impressed, partly because how clean it is. I was born with a disability, as a result my parents had to take me to hospitals regularly, for these hospital visits we had to travel on the Underground, that's how my interest in the Underground developed; I'm not the only one, lots of artists of various disciplines have found the Underground to be of great interest in their work.
