Tony, asked my parents for guitar and lessons when I was young and they said no. So when I retired at 67 I bought a Yamaha from my local music store and booked lessons, loved it had a great instructor, then bought an Epihone Hummingbird, then an electric and now have a Taylor. (but still desire a Martin, which is a dream of mine) I have been playing for 3 years now and found your viideos online. Great Stuff... love them.

Hi Tony, I picked up the guitar at are 65 after retirement. I grew up in the heyday of the electric guitar. It’s sound always made me feel so awesome. I went on to became a lead singer/ frontman, and was always onstage with formidable guitar players. I was always closest in the band to the lead guitar player, kinda like a guitar fanboy. When I retired I felt like I finally had the time to learn my favorite instrument. I didn’t want to play like a hobbyist. I wanted to be GOOD!! I embarked on a mission. For five years now I play everyday for a few hours a day. I’m 69 now, and I want to get as good as I can in-the time I have left on this planet

Thanks for another banger of a lesson Tony! My first guitar was a gift from my wife on my 30th birthday a Norman b-18. I was totaly surprised and had never really thought of learning to play before that. I taught myself how to play mostly on youtube and with the help of some great musicians that I worked with at the time, Now 15 years later I have writen countless songs and still play everyday! I tell my wife it was the best gift anyone has ever given me, it is a life long hobby that I will enjoy as long as I am able to hold a guitar! Cheers!

Started playing drums around 1980, age 10. In highschool I learned a 2 string E-blues. 2 years later, I picked up chords and evolved from there. I have ended up with my own rythmic style of play, because I have so many drum/percussion things I want to bring into it. You can best hear it in the way I play in my latest videos “Ordinary things” & “Billie jean”. That was the answer to your Q. On a sidenote… Brilliant channel you got. Nice motivating and inspiring for developing my guitarplay. Also good energy around you. Good aura of devotion and enthusiasm (maybe spelled wrong). Keep it up. Thanks. Raz.

First picked up the guitar in the early 70's because I liked to sing and my sister could actually sing. There was a lot of inspirational music in my head in that era as well. A blues in E on an acoustic = magic. Cheers mate.

Please ignore those with critical suggestions like "You should use open instead of zero". Your the teacher and I've heard it both ways. It like some say "root" and some say "tonic" ; they mean the same thing..I'd tell my student, if your hear to learn, then learn that there are oftentimes several correct ways to say anything, and they should thank me for expanding thier horizons! I've played rhythm guitar for 50+ years..just learned music theory a few years ago...now leaning lead...I LOVE your videos and learn a lot, quickly! Thank you.

I love singing (especially British & Irish folk) and I've had an acoustic guitar hanging around for years. After moving cities I got in with a crowd that regularly meet up to sing songs from a songbook with chords. a few friends could play the guitar accompanyment and I wanted to be able to do that too, and also play/sing other songs that I love. Turned out a good move as the other guitarists are now parents or have moved away, and I'm the guy with the guitar most often at the singalongs!

I started playing guitar in my teens and played for about 25 years. I played in a few bands, playing mostly local taverns and such. Of course the reason I wanted to play guitar is because chicks dig guitar players.🙂 I stopped for nearly 30 years, and then picked it back up after I retired at 67 and I've been having a blast re-learning this amazing instrument.

But !..the first tune that I made up started almost exactly as the one in this lesson !……have written a ton of songs n riddims over the years now but still consider myself a crap guitar player ! 😂 Love yer channel boss ! 👍❤️

I actually didn't pick up the guitar at first - a friend of mine, who I thought was one of the coolest people I had ever met, played BASS. His dad had just bought him a new bass so he gifted me his old one. I started teaching myself how to play but I quickly realized that I'm a singer/songwriter and the bass just didn't have the range I needed for the songs that I was writing. So I borrowed an old guitar from my father and taught myself how to play. So for me, picking up the guitar was all about writing music.

I ask my mum and dad for a guitar at 14 and they said it would be another fad and would end up in a cupboard with my judo suit, then at the age of about 18 I was going along to jam sessions and asking guitarists to learn songs to perform as I am a singer, every week I would turn up eager and every week I would get shot down so on the on the 3rd week I bought a guitar and decided to back myself... 🎸❤
