There was NO damage to the body of the vehicle and the mechanical work was carried out under warranty at MINI dealership" , Hmm?? thought it hit a log and was wrecked!!

Hi Pete, I do understand the emotional connection to your car. I was leaving work when a drunk driver hit me head on at 70mph. I had to be cut out of my car and, as the medics carried me to the ambulance, I turned my head and saw my car, roof cut away, front wheels misaligned and the front of the car destroyed with fluid everywhere. Had the car two years, not a scratch and very low mileage. Although I sustained injuries, I had more concern for my car, and yes I did have a few tears. Glad your wife is fine considering, and you of course.

I never lost a car like that, but i can feel the pain of saying goodbye to a car. I‘ve given back my BMW 1 series because the leasing expired and i opted for my first Mini Cooper. And i never thought i would feel like saying goodbye to a dear friend. It got me everywhere, to work, to my family, to different countries and never had a single issue. It was basically the perfect car for me and yet i wanted to experience something new. But that was before i felt like betraying my companion😢

So sorry for your loss but I'm glad Mrs. Petrol Pad was not hurt. I can relate to your ordeal when about 7 years ago, something similar happened to my beloved 2005 A4 (B7) at 80 kmph on a dual carriageway when a pallet flew off a lorry in the next lane - all caught on camera by my car cam. I couldn't avoid it that split second as there were cars behind me and in the next lane so I ploughed through it with my family in the car. Cut a long story short, suspension was rebuilt plus a new Rieke bumper (last one was smashed to pieces) but it never felt like the same car. I don't have a suggestion for your log but I have one for Charlie if you still have access to it - remove any salvageable mods, keep one or two of your favourites as momento and sell the rest to others so they can enjoy the fruits of your labour and love. I know you didn't ask us to guess what your next car will be, but I am guessing it could be electric and probably something along the lines of an MG perhaps?

Ped, I totally get being emotionally attached to a car. After 16 years trouble free motoring in my beloved Volvo V90 (final iteration of the 960 estate), my wife had a minor accident. The insurance company (Admiral, though never again) insisted that as the repair bill would be way above its value it refused to have the car repaired. Despite an independent engineer privately assessing the cost of repair was well within Admiral's requirements , the insurers still refused. The car sat in my garage while I decided what to do; in the end I reluctantly concluded that whatever it cost would be better spent on a replacement car. The V90 had been with my family through the school years, around Europe and the UK; on the day it was trailered away for scrapping I had a tearful moment of genuine sorrow.

You have the right perspective, though, at least Mrs. PP is well and otherwise unharmed, thankfully!! I understand being emotionally attached to a car to the point of tears. My previous 2006 JCW Cooper had seen me through some very hard times like a cancer diagnosis and I also made a lot of memories and new life-long friends. I feel your pain Ped.....I bought my dream car in 1994...a new Porsche 928 GTS in Midnight blue...Savanna beige leather with blue piping...and the Porsche special split rims...had 3 faultless years with it driving all over Europe. Then, in Moving house too deep in the sticks, the wife decided we need a 4x4, just in case of inclement weather...so we sold the 928 and the actual dealer bought it....fast forward 1 month, I was really pining for it ...went back to the dealers to buy it back....already sold, but they said they would contact the new owner...following week the dealers rang back to tell me the sickening news that the 928 had been totalled by a tree...absolutely gutted, and to this day I still feel a pinch.

Gutted for you. We collected my wife’s JCW convertible on 31/12, and on the 19/3 I hit a pothole at around 50mph in Cannock Chase. I assumed a buckled alloy and maybe some damage to the suspension. The pothole was more like the edge of the road had crumbled but was effectively like hitting a kerb at 50mph head on. I was seriously in the dog house! We used Mini Recovery and after around 3 weeks we got it back, £5800 repair bill - claimed on insurance obviously. I have no doubt that if our car was maybe 6 months older, it would have been touch and go as to whether it was written off - although never told my wife that! Luckily I let her borrow my JCW Countryman, for the time as I work at home. It’s amazing though how even in such a short time these ‘machines’ form such an integral part of your life!

What a shame, incredible how much damage can be done at such a slow speed too. Cars can be written off really easily nowadays because of the high cost of replacing electronics, sensors, safety equipment etc. A friend of mine struck a small object on the M3 sometime back, the car continued to drive fine. When he got back home, turned out the subframe was damaged, and car was subsequently written off! So sorry Ped for this, but as you say - nobody hurt and cars are metal at the end of the day!

So sorry to hear about Charlie! Its one of the cars that got us through lockdown that I have actually seen. My best memories? I'm not a fan of what BMW did to the Mini (and Rover for that matter), but it's easy to get a deep connection with your car, especially if it carries a lot of good memories. I hate blind bends at the best of times, but that must have been very scary for Mrs PP. I remember coming round a bend once at around 50mph, and there was a deer in the road - a heart in the mouth moment, but the combination of me braking sharply and the resulting noise spooked it at the last second, resulting in a near miss and a very shaken driver! It does make you reflect on a few things. As a driver though, best thing you can do is get back in the car asap - you do need confidence to drive, and without it, you'll struggle.

Hello from Sydney, I had a customer some years ago who’s customer had the misfortune to run over a dead wombat in the road late at night. When wombats die, they are very solid, the mess that it made of the little one series was remarkable, it took out the sump too, writing the car off, but took out front and rear bumper bars and most of the cladding underneath too. So glad to hear Mrs P is ok. As car guys we do let our cars get under our skin as we invest our time money and effort into them and have an emotional attachment to them - especially Minis for some reason. Totally understand the sadness you felt. Anyone who says they are just a lump of metal doesn't get it. Charlie will always be a big part of the channel but really looking forward to the next 'character' on the channel and what adventures you get up to.

Evening people, so sorry to hear that news Pete, but the main thing is that Mrs Ped is ok and cars can be replaced, the 2 things that stick in my mind with Charlie is obviously the Mud flaps, love em or hate em and the car vid of the de chroming of the trim, it just showed your excellent diy skills 👍😜

Main thing is everyone is okay. I think it’s the memories of places you go enjoying the car which gives you that emotional attachment. Last week, I was interested to see how good that car vertical report is so I did it on my first decent car i bought back in 2011 only to find it was written off in 2020. I admit, i was pretty gutted even though I’d sold it 6 years ago!!

Gutted to hear about the car mate. I have a W140 S Class I’ve nicknamed Bertha. So yeah I get the attachment side of it I’m glad to see the memory of the car will live on your Porsche. Nice specced car btw Glad mrs ped is fine 👍. I’m sure the Porsche will bring your smile and joy back mate. Can’t wait to see what you do with it 🥳🇦🇺👍

Gutted for you both! And really glad that Tracey is well if not shaken up at the time it happened, as are you. I am sure COVID sealed the relationship you both had with Charlie. I can have some empathy as I had to sell my M340i Touring due to unwanted attention, a car I miss. Strange that I did not really know what car to go for next, I am fortunate to have another car but that has such a special place in my heart as I was only able to buy due to money I received after my wife passed away end of 2018, so bitter sweet. Anyway I have been subscribed to your channel for sometime but never watched the Charlie vlogs until now and as a result have purchased a Clubman JCW and waiting to collect. So a big thank you for your content which kept me going through lockdown along with Joe Achilles, High Peak Autos, It’s Joel and others, and your continued passion for cars. All the Pete.

The thing I remember most about the clubman was the Remus exhaust mod which made you grin and chuckle like a child at Christmas.

Very sad news, totally understand how you feel, we all get attached to our cars. If ever you are in Gloucester, I have a very close look alike to Charlie if want a spin in it. Hopefully your new one can achieve the same emotions. ❤️

Hey Ped, very sorry that this happened but as you say, it’s only an abject and everyone was alright. You buying Charlie and your Carvid series got me through the start of Covid and tbh, was one of the reasons I pulled the trigger and bought my 21 JCW Clubman. (That’s a story!) So Charlie’s legacy lives on here in Canada. Take the log, find a woodworker and have them carve you a likeness of Charlie. Paint only the striped and mudflats, leave the rest natural wood. ☺️ Cheers and TY for being authentic.

Sad but not irreplaceable Peter, I understand but I made a decision to buy with my heart and not my head and bought a 11yr old BMW and I love it to bits.....first time ever it's happen.

Gutted for you, but excited for Monday! When my wife wrote off our family car, I was also relieved she was fine and told her it was just a piece of metal. But in all honesty, it's just not! 😂 You form a relationship with a car, know its personality and come to love them, some more than others.

Wow. So very sorry. Happy Ms. PP is well. You may not remember me and the email we shared, but we bought a Clubman JCW within a few months of you and she, too, has been destroyed (flood damage). Still hurts :(

I’m so sorry about your car. But I’m so thankful it wasn’t the roadster/cherry 💕 I love it so much. I bought a coupe version (same colour and jcw) because of your videos 💕 I love my cherry too 💕 I can’t wait to wrap mine and de chrome her one day 💕

Absolutely gutted for you, and gutted for me too. I ordered a Rebel Green Clubman JCW in February and have to wait until at least mid-August for delivery (probably longer, given everything that’s happening right now) so your adventures with Charlie have allowed me to vicariously enjoy a Clubman JCW while I wait. Devastated at her demise and I won’t see her again. Mine already has a name - “Rebel” of course. Glad that you and yours are all safe and well. Looking forward to seeing your new wheels, but for me, it just won’t be the same. I’ll have to look back over old videos and rewatch those now.

I'm actually gutted about this, you videos with that car are my memory from lock down. I worked throughout and coming home to two kids who had cabin fever was hard work, so when they went to bed you videos was my 20 minutes of my time, cup of tea and a few jaffa cakes. When i come to buy a new car i will genuinely consider one of those, really gutted for you both. But I've just seen you have got a new video out showing your new car, I'll watch that one now. Create some new memories with that. Hope your both well. Carl.

Its crazy how attached we become to our cars, we just can't help it. Glad Tracey is OK, as you say, its the main thing. We had one write-off, Even when you know its a write-off, the air-bags going off are a giveaway! Its still a shock. Then there is the hassle of replacing your car in a hurry.... But, as you say, no one was hurt and there are far more important things going on in the world. Looking forward to the reveal

I fully understand attachment to a car. I used to have a 07 Focus St that was tuned to 350bhp I know that there are faster things on the road but this car was so fun to drive. Wheel spinning in 4th and 5th and the sheer noise of the thing. But I was in a financial low and driving it back and forth to work was costing me far to much. It was a very sad day when I traded the girl in. I’m now years on driving a 16reg 530d which is a quick and comfortable car but not the same in any shape. Feel for you bro, can’t wait to see what you’ve brought though.
