Looks like with some basic maintenance and a little TLC the potato harvester should work out and keep digging potatoes for some time. Just needs dialed in to start working now.
@HazzyME2 сағат бұрын
One row digger. Haven’t seen one in a while. Spade looks good but the lags have seen better days. Lower the spade till you get dirt 1/2 way up the bed. You carry the dirt to cushion the potatoes to prevent bruising

I knew of a company that used those for digging tulip bulbs in the 70’s and early 80’s. The old boy was right. A bunch of young people would follow behind and sack the bulbs.

Just keep in mind that the reason a lot of farm equipment is bolted or riveted together is so it can flex. Same concept as semi truck frames. Usually welding on farm equipment like that will just make it crack later. Had that experience with a disc years ago.....

What a neat old machine. It just shows you the necessity breeds invention. Back in Maine when I was a kid the potato farmers kids would get two weeks off of school to help bring in the crops. I don't know if they still do there's probably some child labor law preventing it these days.
@bryduhbikeguy5 минут бұрын
I happened to watch potato harvesting a couple days ago. After the potatoes had been pulled up and dropped in a row with most of the dirt shaken out on the machine, they just went back down the row and let it do the job again with a conveyer into trucks.

I think that the potatoes just go out the back, lay on top of the ground and cure a bit, before picking and storing. Now i wonder if he hills by hand, or has an attachment for that?

Well, I guess I'm as old as that potato digger too. What year was the tractor? We had an Allis Chalmers when I was a kid. Good job getting the hitch fixed on it.
@mikka811Сағат бұрын
Tell your buddy to never work on that thing when running off the PTO. An older guy years ago was all by himself in the field and the machine got stock in the machine. He tried to clear it and somehow the sleeve of his shirt got caught in the machine and it ripped his arm off. He died in the field after he bled out! They weren’t to worry about security then…
