As a writer by trade and as a passion, I could give an hour lecture about this man's ability to use the spoken word as a Samurai uses his Katana or a conductor drives an entire orchestra of dozens of instruments in unison. Point is, it's really f'ing hard to do what he is doing on every song. His lyrics are almost flawless on multiple factors. Judging for poetry, creative writing and even when judging political/advocacy writing. He never loses the point, never gets lost. He doesn't ever sacrifice his vocabulary. In 1968 I was an 8th grader. I took an English elective called "Poetry in Folk Music" where we analysed the pop songs from the day for things like rhyme scheme, alliteration, consonance, imagery and it opened my young eyes and I appreciated music and reading poetry much more after that class. Now I'm an old white guy who has actively avoided Rap and Hip Hop because of the negativity of what the genre has promoted over the years and the lack of melody, which has always been essential for me to call something music, but your reaction to this song and the references to the components we studied in that 8th grade class may have opened my eyes once again. How prevalent it this "poetry" in rap? I find I really dig Tom's music and I think you just helped me understand why. Thanks. Did you notice how great the video was for being just him sittin' on a chair in a darkened room? That stuff is pretty genius too. That would be props to Nova, I guess.

You're about 13 years my senior, but we're in agreement. Tom says he writes "anthems". Perhaps, in his mind that includes poetry, prose, message, artistry, style, honesty, etc. He's the first rapper to make a dime off me since Tone Loc and the Beastie Boys (actually, they are the _only_ rappers to make a dime off me till Tom). He's different and original in all the right ways. The best part? He actually has _something to say._ He's not just running his mouth. Ok...I’m a musician and I’ve never been a huge rap lover. I’m originally a drummer and a songwriter as well. As a drummer I could transcribe some of the flows in his songs into drum beats and fills and it would stand alone without words which speaks high to me. And then...his messages and talent with rhymes, imagery, metaphors, alliteration and others is mind blowing. And the fact that he’s purely independent??!! Whoa. Aside from Tom this reaction was flames. I’ve watched a lot of reaction videos and I’ve been going down a rabbit hole but this reaction was not only put together and edited so perfectly but his take on it and not missing great bars was my favorite. This song is mind blowing. The only thing I can’t imagine is how he would do it live. Then I dropped my phone behind the seat of the car on the interstate in spokane Washington on the way to Oregon on a vacation, with the fam sleeping in the car. What I love about the HOG is how loyal they/we are to Tom, while remaining respectful of others. Other fanbases i've seen will mob people and just be super mean whilest defending their artist. The HOG however, will go to videos of people flat out talking trash about Tom and Co. and them not only that they're wrong about Tom, but list reasons and examples, while being completely respectful. It's rare to see that nowadays.

This is my favorite song of his. The fact he is not repeating anything and still has a 5+ minute song singing at that pace. The lyrics must be pages long and all good. I heard a breakdown that this was because of some beef he had with another rapper (I think the name was Cryptic) and a few others. It just keeps going and going. It is great.
