Thank you for the video Colin. I noticed you didn't turn the gain up beyond noon. IMHO the best sounds come from a Klon style pedal, when you are at 3 o'clock or higher. Unless the gain is turned up, the "Magic" clipping diodes aren't engaged. I'll wager the mod switch might have more effect with a higher gain setting. Cheers.
@zyzzyx31608 ай бұрын
Yes. On any Klon Clone, just turn up the gain and manipulate the sound with guitar's tone and volume knobs. It makes even the most muddy pickups sound glorious.

After seeing this video I got an idea and I found this was right; you can connect a external footswitch to the Boss looper, so you can keep on working with the pedal on the desk and still operate it with your foot. You can also use a double footswitch and a plethora of options reveals itself. As a guitar player the looper functions in a DAW are limited when you have both hands at the guitar, so I made mine work with a pedal (the less advanced one just requires a £ 10 pound switch, put you mouse pointer on the record button of the DAW and there you go (you only need to make sure you don't that pointer, less cumbersome solutions require a MIDI-switch pedal that costs more).

I preferred the sound straight into the amp, no pedals. I dont understand the klon obsession out there, just so much hype, like for example the "magic diodes" - probably the most common setting for a Klon is with the gain off where the diodes are effectively out of circuit. Save your money and put it towards a better amp 🙂 (Not you Col, you got good amps)
@frankcarter64278 ай бұрын
almost everything ever said about guitars and gear is BS, agree, the 'tone is in the amp and speaker(s)

I bought a lot of pedals, in spurts, since the 70s. Since we moved, I never reassembled my pedal board. I have re tubed some amps changed to speakers I’ll like in particular amps and now tend to like to go straight in. When I was working co-writing a couple tunes with Eric Bloom for a BÖC album he always just plugged straight into a Marshall. Buck Dharma, BÖCs amazing lead guitarist, has quite an arsenal of FX. (Eric calls it the “rack of doom”:) In essence it would be hard to have 3 guitarists in a band all playing with FX. Makes sense. Keep it simple. Love that Telecaster btw ! ☮️

For a klon you really need a clean tone and a strat and have the gain between off and 11 o clock and it fattens up the sound nicely. The ceritone is the one i have and its as close as your ever going to get without spending 4-8k
@Walks-With-Pride8 ай бұрын
Not sure what to say to this. I did see a video last night of Eddy Van Halen, in which he said that he never used a drive pedal in his life. According to him, the only things required for a good drive sound is a good guitar, a good amp, and a pair of hands that know how to make the guitar talk. Although I have never been a fan of overdrive for my own personal sound, I do appreciate it when I hear it applied by those who know what they are doing. Since I have never known what I am doing, I will refrain from passing any sort of judgement on this pedal. I am an old school Surf Cowboy, so any clean Fender style amp will bring a smile to my face. Stay strong, good people!

Oh. I got a Notaklon as well here in Canada. US$99 plus shipping turned into CAD$180. Then the courier brokerage fees and Canadian sales tax made the total CAD$217 (about US$160). Not really a cheap pedal at all then. It’s OK.

Never built a pedal. Looks fun. My brother is the current drummer for Beatallica (only on the last album, but toured for the last two)-he bought a couple guitars wanting to learn and I’m going to repaint some Chinese pedals in a Beatles theme for him to play around with. I had the gold mini Tumnus. Granddaughter plays with the pedals and I can’t find that one. When the limited germanium version came out I ordered from two online retailers getting one from the first and second batches. Setting up two pedalboards with close to Klons.

Josh Scott, of JHS Pedals, hated that, whenever he featured a vintage pedal on his show, people immediately started inflating the prices on Reverb etc. The worst one was the original Klon, with the Centaur on the front and gold case, selling for thousands. So he decided to do something about it and came up with his own version, the “notaklon”. Now demand for his pedal is so high, people are advertising used “notaklon” for higher than new. You can’t win it seems.
