Knee on knee is one of the most potentially dangerous plays you can do. When I played on honey baked which is a Michigan team when I was 17 I got hit knee on knee and it broke my femur you could hear the crunch. I actually couldn’t feel my leg at first it was weird some players helped me up because I just thought I was being a baby so they start skating me off the ice and I didn’t want to go so I tried putting my leg down to skate on it and it gave out like a limp noodle 😂. So yeah they had to call the ambulance and had to stretcher me out of the rink. I cringe real hard every time I see it in a hockey game now just brings back all the memories.

@@bradbradford8576 no actually, that's exactly why fighting is in the game. because hockey is so fast paced and it's hard to tell in the moment sometimes if a player was being dirty or not, especially if they look hurt afterwards too, they could just as easily argue mcdavid targeted their knee and he should be the one thrown out. the players usually know better than the refs though who was being dirty, and fighting is meant to discourage rat behaviour. even if it just makes players think, "i better be extra careful not to even get my knee near mcdavids knee or i might get punched in the face"

The hardest thing about this is that it's pretty hard to see if it is intentional or not. Sometimes it's easy to see, somebody just sticks their leg out. But when someone moves their body either for a puck or to protect it, McDavid is good but by the time he's with the player, it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to react to that change. Players generally don't seem sorry though. Sometimes they check on him, other times they don't do anything.
@marshallmykietyshyn4973
@marshallmykietyshyn4973 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's usually intentional (except maybe with Edler and Kneeordano). Players are just making a desperation play to stop him from blowing by them. But that doesn't make it ok. Players need to be in control and not putting other players in danger. I think the NHL needs to step in and start fining/suspending these plays, before it results in an injury. That's the only way players are going to stop doing it imo.

I'd be devastated to see him sustain a career altering injury. It's my opinion that his moves and his one of a kind skating ability puts him in spots where a defender can get juked out of their skates to the point they lose control and a bad hit can happen. Idk man. It's a tough topic because it is him mostly...but its a lot of different players coming into contact with him. And yes, he does try stepping around people very regularly, and this thing will continually happen to him. Even if it's not a dirty player, they will normally reactively try to do something. If it has to change, I'm certain it's going to be McDavids doing, not anyone else.

Knee on knee is a hard one. Its such a fast game, im sure most of the time its an accident. It happens to everyone but people only care when its a star player
@CC-of5xl

I'd argue it's almost never an accident unless the players are both turning. If a guy side steps and you stick your leg out how is that an accident? Also it doesn't happen to other players at the same rate. It happens to Mcdavid way more often than most because players panic when he beats them wide. So sure it might not be planned but it's no different than players tripping or hooking a guy who beats them. It's a last minute reaction to stop a goal but it's not an accident.

I think most of us are good willed and don't want to see any of these guys getting hurt. It's enfuriating to see him get targeted. But like I say his team needs to build an aura where if u touch him ur getting messed up. With the SHG situation this year it's not like they're scared to take on a PK. Throw down and stand up for the man!

I've always maintained that knee on knee injuries should penalize the offender as much as the injured. If the injured player is out for any length of time then the offender is out for the same amount of time. No exemptions, intentional or not.

Never seen player have as many uncalled knee-on-knees as Connor McDavid. I hope the NHL reflects and sees they're putting their star player at risk every time they don't call it

I dont blame em for being mad. I think the league has to take knee on knee hits way more seriously. Its weird because its sometimes such a last minute move because a guy is getting around you, but just putting your leg out can end a career and also give someone knee problems for life.

Accidental or not, players are responsible for the consequences of their actions - voluntary or involuntary, purposeful or accidental. You see it all the time with stick infractions, interference, bad hits, etc. It makes no sense that the same doesn't seem to apply to knee-on-knee hits which are arguably the most career-threatening to ANY player, let alone McDavid. The league needs is simply not adequately protecting its assets.

Anyone who does a knee on knee check to try to slow a player down accidental or not could potentially end his and the other player’s career. Knee on knee should be taken out of the game completely, like head shots. Player safety rules must be more severe because it is very dangerous play! NHL and NHLPA must have a 5 min penalty plus 5 game minimum suspension!
