This Makes Me Nervous But We Have No Choice... Abandoned 1962 AMC Rambler

It's the abandoned 1962 AMC Rambler Classic Deluxe! The pan comes off the Borg Warner push button Flash-O-Matic automatic transmission. This may the worst transmission I've ever seen. Now I'm nervous about if the transmission is even going to work or not. I have hope.

It amazes me that those engineers were smart enough to put a drain plug on that pan, and at the same time design the car so you couldn't access those hidden pan bolts 🙄, but you were not defeated! Nice job figuring how to get those bolts out! That mucky sludge leaves me speechless 😮 Another great video, thanks for bringing us along!

I’m wondering if the bolts used to be accessible when the rubber mounts were brand new 62 years ago. Maybe as they got soft, the transmission got lower. Thanks for the nice comment.

My family had a '63 Rambler 770 Classic and a '66 Rambler 660 wagon. Both were good cars. Also had 2 uncles who drove Ramblers.AL B.

M35 and T35 are the same thing. It looks like someone used the incorrect transmission fluid. That tranny will do fine on Dexron in the future assuming you can get it cleaned enough to use.

I used 1/4 drive 1/2 in socket with extension , waseasy

U r on best course. Clean it up, throw on the pan, drop in the dexron, spray the crap out of the xmember bolts for insurance, and give it a shot.

@freemansgarage iii is fine . So is dexron mercon. Original fluid was type F but F changed in early 70s and recommendation changed to Dexron. Putting those BOLTS back can be a PITA.... u may wind up with xmember notches yet... the boys become super inaccessible as the mounts pancake with age.... I would not touch mounts.... yet... R&R is a special torture requiring thinkerizing

@@oldschoolcars3318 Ramblers / AMCs with Borg-Warner automatic transmissions called for "Type A" fluid. The modern equivalent of "Type A" is "Dextron III". When Ford built their version of the Borg-Warner automatic transmissions, they used different friction material which called for "Type F".

Um Yeah wow, what a mess. Clean it all out and see if it is going to work. blow out the transmission cooler lines too. That transmission will need a second oil change if it is any good.

I agree. No cooler lines on this one so that makes it a little simpler. A second change will be a must.

someone at one time put an additive that reacted with the fluid and made yuck. I have 2 of those trans and l love in Texas

Can't give any trans advice, but the name"Borg Warner" sounds like bullet proof no? Maybe you should have ordered two gaskets.

Like anything else some are stronger than others. Ordering two sure wouldn’t hurt anything. I think we’ll be fine.
