I agree, and please don't try to capture the mother it won't work she's too much of a wild dog/but you can let her feel more comfortable by earning your trust by not trying to catch her, just feed her & eventually she will trust you! She's too smart to be caught and even if she was she would get away/she will tell you what to do you have to listen to the dog! According to Dog whisperer Cesar Millan. There is also the lack of protective animosity from the mother to consider. She knows this dog, and trusts him. Had it bin a "strange" dog, she would not have allowed him near her pups.

Well my mom fed this cat who was skin and bone which turned out to be breastfeeding her babies and brought them later on home with her. After that she left them to us they were 3 males and 1 female. The female had kittens on her own and one day she left and one of the kittens (a male) took care of the other kittens babies. He even scrolls the neighborhood and adopts little stray kittens and brings them home 😂. And he teaches them all from how and where to poop to how and where to hunt. And the kittens worship him❤️.
