It’s hard to tell with homeless people if they are willing to help themselves and get back on their feet, or if they want to keep begging for money. I wish I had the heart that you had but I’ve had some bad experiences with them. When I was younger there was a homeless man outside a Dunkin Doughnuts. I went in and bought him food and gave it to him. The guy barely said thank you and as I walked away and looked back he threw it in the trash. I’ve had some weird other experiences. Some just don’t want to be helped
@xunera70853 жыл бұрын
When I was younger I gave a homeless guy some Wendy’s nuggets since he was asking people for money for food, but then I realized he clearly didn’t want money for food since he put the nuggets in his pockets and said “I’ll save them for later” then threw them away so basically the same thing happened to me. I know how you feel lol

please Give this video a watch kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioO1k3awj62Sfrs the kid speaks truth. Im not even disagreeing with you but idk if youve ever ate fast food say like, 3 days in a row, but you dont feel good or healthy, especially when you are tryna sleep on cold concrete. Most of the time its better to just buy them some fruit or a tooth brush and tooth paste or some new clothes. And to be honest, plenty of people who arent homeless have drug and alchohol problems. Cant really blame a guy for getting high or drunk to help fall asleep out in the elements, also people with habits become dopesick if they dont get their fix and then they are extremely vulnerable to any other bad people who might come across them
@roseforeuropa3 жыл бұрын
If you're truly wanting to help homeless people (instead of trying to feel good about how nice you are), just silently donate monthly to a food bank and homeless shelter. At least the people who use their services are getting just food or a roof over their head, and not money to spend on anything else.

@@mariettagernandt4575 What government isn't providing rehab, I'm honestly just curious? I hate that "all hope is lost mentality". The poor don't need to be given stuff, they need to be taught financial literacy. It is very easy to use the internet to learn how to not only better your life, but make money online. You could even get a start off job working minimum wage, and learn how to invest that money to earn more money. I understand that a lot of people do not know this, and they think it's only one way to do things. Which is why I'm saying that if you really want to permanently help, teach them financial literacy. It's videos like these that make me honestly rethink giving to the homeless, some people really need that extra startup money, but a lot of them do not. Help should be used as a crutch, not a wheelchair.
@heatherm91634 жыл бұрын
Muchie I truly believe that in MANY cases, mental health/illness is at the root of the problem with the homeless. This includes those addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. I definitely didn’t always see the homeless in that way. I used to think in many cases, homeless people chose to be homeless by not taking care of their responsibilities or themselves and that most Homeless people could change their situation if they really wanted to. With that said, my views on this have changed after experiencing totally disabling mental health issues In my mid 40’s. After being in Sr leadership role for 15 years, making complex decisions and mentoring/coaching managers under me, I found myself being unable to leave my home and unable to properly care for myself. I had great insurance through my job however it was still difficult to find mental health professionals that had availability and once I found one, it was just as difficult to make it to the appointments. It was like I was mentally paralyzed. Thankfully, I have a small but extremely supportive family because there have been many times whereby I could have easily been another homeless person on the streets. I honestly don’t know what the answer is but I know there are not enough mental health professionals and they are definitely needed. I also think that what this man is doing is beautiful. He is letting his faith and heart guide him and his intent is pure.

@debbiematheny47344 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Sometimes it takes 5 or 6 times or more. Having volunteered here in the US to serve hot meals to the houseless, meeting many who were addicts, i understand all too well what happens to them. Homeless, with no family support, addicted to drugs or alcohol, sleeping in tents in the woods or in doorways their lives are bleak. They don't trust people, have to fight to keep their few belongings, and endure the wrath and disgust from those who "have". They are so beaten down by society and life they no longer see their own worth. It takes a long time to convince them they really do matter to someone. If they do agree to rehab, many fall through the cracks in our country's social programs. They may complete rehab, but then have no place to live, no address so no job, no vehicle, and no family to go to. And the cycle starts all over again. At some point in the process, there has to be someone to throw their hand out and say "i will help you find a place to live, get you signed up for disability (if it applys), or drive you to a job interview". Those of us with the resources must be willing to help them along the way. Sure, many will fail...but you may be the person who helps them succeed this time!

It took me 8+ years trying to help her, in the end, I had to give it up. I gave up because I see myself fallen and if it wasn't for that, I too would have gone the same route. NOTE: Some of you may be judging me for giving up on my own Mother. To be honest, it was the hardest thing I have ever done yet. I now in a better place, because I had to give up. It wasn't easy, but it has to be done. Here was my ultimate question and it wasn't "selfishness".... Who is going to help me, when I fall?

The only thing you need to give your mother is unconditional love. You do not have to allow her to take over your life. Just visit her with a small bag of goodies a hug and words of kindness.

No judgement here. You need to take care of yourself before you can help others. 8 years is a long time. I hope you succeed in everything that you do in life my friend. Be blessed. ❤️🇨🇦

@Jordan Bronson - Definitely understand where you’re coming from. Better to keep some distance or give up and not allow yourself to be dragged down. Mental illness and drug addiction are extremely difficult to deal with. I wish the rehab places could keep them against their will until they sort out their problems (or if they are in danger of hurting themselves or others).

Some people just don’t want to take responsibility for their life and are too lazy to work so they live on the street. I heard of a story where a women helped a homeless man find a job and an apartment and then 2 weeks later he quit the job then lost his apartment shortly after and was back on the street. He wasn’t an addict or mentally ill, he was just lazy and admitted that he doesn’t want to work when she confronted him.

Well, you bought clothes and food for him, still he needed help for change. Like, de don't have a house or where to stay, he aint got a job too You did obviously a great job, as you always do, but saying that he blew the chance is not too fair with him, you know? He got the clothes and stuff but he dont have anywhere to go. You always do a great job, but its not fair with this guy dude :/
