This isn’t correct, he can go about 6 hours per day out of it because of the treatment but he isn’t fully cured. He still has to eat and sleep in it which is why he isn’t depressed.

He taught himself to breathe outside of the iron lung, and managed four or five hours outside of it. He was never 'partly cured', and certainly not through medicine. I think you'll find that he used his time outside the lung to move slowly around to aid blood circulation - something that undoubtedly helped him survive to 78. He communicated via a pen attached to a piece of plastic to type on a keyboard. Absolutely incredible man who attended college, became a lawyer and wrote a book - ALL from the iron lung.

He wasn't depressed because he had a phenomenal attitude to life. He took each day as a blessing , and never let his illness define him or stand in his way to achieving his goals. We could all learn from him.

in his last years he was paralysed from neck down, so this is outdated information

yeah thats sadly just how this low effort short content goes. people either accidentally misinform due to a very shallow google search or do so with the intent to urge people leave correction comments like yours, thus feeding into the algorithm for more views

He was an incredible man with incredible spirit, fight, and determination. Most people would give up and die, and nobody lives long after contracting this disease, which is why Paul was such an inspiration. He lost the freedom of his body, but not of his mind. He taught himself to breathe so he was able to go for four hours outside of the lung - not every day. I doubt this time was used for anything else other than moving around the room to aid blood circulation. From the iron lung he studied to be - and became - a lawyer and he also wrote a book. It's deeply humbling to think he achieved more in his life than most of us will, and that his will to live and enjoy life as much as he could meant he survived until 78 years of age. R.I.P Paul ❤🙏

Rest in peace. My grandmother was partially paralyzed by polio. And most younger folks have no idea how fortunate they are to live in a country that largely ended it. Or how dangerous it is to let an unrestricted flow from countries where polio is still extant into the country.

This is incomplete information. He can go hours without having to use the iron lung. He can breathe without it to go to work.

MAY YOU ACCEPT ISLAM SIR PAUL RICHARD ALEXANDER. MAY ALLAH ALMIGHTY SHOW YOU THE CORRECT PATH. MAY ALLAH ALMIGHTY GRANT YOU AND YOUR PARENTS EASE. I BEG YOU TO EMBRACE ISLAM. THIS IS THE TRUE PATH. JESUS A.S WAS A PROPHET OF ALLAH ALMIGHTY. SIMILARLY, DAVID, SOLOMON, ABRAHAM, NOAH, JOSEPH ETC. WERE ALL PROPHETS. THEY WERE SENT TO THIS WORLD TO SPREAD THE WORD OF THE ALLAH ALMIGHTY. THE HOLY PROPHET MUHAMMAD WAS THE LAST PROPHET OF THE ALLAH ALMIGHTY AND HE IS THE SEAL OF THE PROPHETS. I BEG YOU TO UNDERSTAND THIS AND ENTER THE FOLDS OF ISLAM. MAY YOU BE ABLE TO SEE OR HEAR THIS COMMENT. MAY GOD BLESS, AMEEN SUM AMEEN!
