I like how the teams aren't stagnant in blue lock even though its a team oriented game. I though team z was going to be the main focus for the whole thing but no. its like if shortly into haikyuu, they just binned half of karasuno because they weren't good enough and then had hinata start playing with ushijima and oikawa. Then you rank and power scale everyone like a tournament manga.

@@itssitcomstupid no, hinata would have made it. He was only bad because no one put he didn't have any opportunities to learn and become better. His coach even admits to skimping over hinata's personal growth for the betterment of the team. Once hinata is placed in an environment where he can study other players and focus solely on his personal growth in season 4, he becomes much better. Japan weren't actually demolished in 2018 WC, they lost in the most heartbreaking way. They led 2-0 against Belgium which was filled with so many world class players and then Belgium managed to turn it around and won by 2-3, which the last goal on the game was scored in the last minute with lightning speed counter attack. Even tho, you're not Japanese, you'd feel for them. At the time I wasn't into Anime or Manga so I didn't really have a special feeling towards Japan, but that was just painful.

What I don't like about people criticising it is that they simplify ego's ideology's into "if you're the striker, you must hog the ball", they read the first chapter and then say that without reading the series. Like as we progress through the series we see teamwork slowly coming into play, the first example being 'chemical reaction', "individuality can lead to indirect teamwork". And as you've said teamwork in blue lock isn't really thrown away rather it is just a by product for the players, ego doesn't encourage hogging the ball, rather don't be afraid to use your own talent, even at the expense of your teammates to score a goal, if you're confident enough or are sure enough that your solo play would be more safe to do near the goal than passing around then go for solo playing, only pass it if you're getting cornered, that's what ego is saying.

I Like the manga very much but that is some BS when same team players try to rob each other of the ball. On a real pitch with about equal level players, they would get smoked. But it is a manga at the end of the day so it is also okay. Even if you have the greatest striker, winning a world cup requires much more so I am waiting the manga answer to that too!!!!

@@mannujc9871 while true, those moments happened in the early phase of the project. Right now I think there is not so much of a I will steal this ball away from him, rather they're thinking of how can they actually stand out once they're given the chance to, I think barou is the only one sticking to his stealing shit, he did stop stealing it directly rather he waits for chances during times where the enemies will be open. And I totally agree with some of your statement here, on a real pitch they would get smoked, but that is if they don't do a single bit of teamwork, which we have already seen they can during the vs U20 arc. It's more so of an hypothetical approach of what perfect circumstances can lead to so I don't mind it as much and it's also a manga as you've said. I'm also waiting for the world Cup moment considering that might be the final arc and will answer most of the questions we've had regarding the series.

@@mannujc9871 It makes sense to rob off the ball if you know the person carrying the ball isn't going to pass to you, doesn't have the capability to shoot and will eventually lose the opportunity. For example in U12 tournament, Isagi was leading the charge but Ego ordered Barou to devour Isagi because he knew that Barou would have the power to finish whatever situation Isagi creates. So it makes perfect sense to rob the ball in such a situation. Ego isn't making the greatest team, he is making the greatest striker and for someone to be a good striker would require them to work out the shortcomings of his own team and realise when should he steal the ball off his own team in time when he knows that his teammate would lose the opportunity.

And there's where I get new ideas to use in my real life... Hell yes I'm getting knowledge here, reflecting in my 3d life. And being egoistic SOMETIMES connected to the person you wanna become (success as other termed it), it helps me as an individual. No comment in edginess, sometimes I like stories in metaphors, easily understood, common sense wise. It's there and it's great. There's art in the words. I love how ridiculously edgy Blue Lock is. Like mfs will say series like Tokyo Ghoul or Berserk are edgy just because of their darker tones and themes, but Blue Lock is edge incarnate. Blue Lock is edgy in a way that would make 14 year-olds who unironically post Joker Society memes blush. It's so damn funny that it works
@SensitiveSavage
@SensitiveSavage 2 жыл бұрын
It's about football 🤣🤣🤣. No matter how edgy you try to make it, as soon as you remember that, you're like: Well this is an exaggeration. Whereas stories like Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk are actually stories about death and gore. I'm just saying it seems to be a poor comparison 🤷🏾‍♂️.
@thatonguy2407
@thatonguy2407 2 жыл бұрын
@@SensitiveSavage Berserk and TG use the dark themes to explore the psyches of the characters and enhance the stories. They are dark, and if you removed the darkness from either they couldn't still tell the story they aim to tell. Blue Lock, on the other hand, does the basic legwork to compare the dynamics of a team player compared to an egotist, but if you removed all the edgy aspects, you'd still be able to tell the same story. A dark story uses the dark themes to tell a story, an edgy story uses dark themes/swearing/slurs to use them.
@SensitiveSavage
@SensitiveSavage 2 жыл бұрын
@@thatonguy2407 I think I get what you're trying to say. I just think you can't compare them because they're so different. Stories like Berserk and Tokyo Ghoul need the darker aspects to push the story forward, you head into them aspecting stuff like that. A sports manga or anime is basically just that, about the sport, if it starts to branch out too much you'll find that those things might even be a stretch and unnecessary. Like I said I understand what you mean. I just got a little upset with your original comment because it felt like you didn't think Tokyo Ghoul and Berserk are real edge type mangas when they're seriously some of the best. And saying Blue Lock is Edge incarnate sounds like a real stretch. No matter how insane things get, it doesn't really come over too seriously for me, when I realize it's all centered around a sport. That's what I meant by branching out, because in order for it to really become Edge Incarnate, it would have to do just that. Maybe if they were fighting extraterrestrials with superpowered abilities that focused around kicking soccer balls at them. It sounds crazy 🤣, but just imagine those monsters are terrifying and a lot of people are killed and the emotional Rollercoaster it can put you through. Than I can start to take the edginess seriously.
@thatonguy2407
@thatonguy2407 2 жыл бұрын
@@SensitiveSavage there's a *big* difference between a series being edgy and a series being dark. A series can have scenes with gore, slurs, swearing and whatever else and not be edgy if those scenes are used to meaningfully push the themes and narrative. For example: the rape scenes in Berserk are all used brilliantly to build the world and narrative and characters, and aren't ever lessened to just a quick scene, while in SAO Asuna is sexually assaulted to quickly make a hateable bad guy and it doesn't have any lasting impact. Berserk shows much more explicit, much darker content, and yet the scene in SAO is edgy, and Berserk is not. Manga like Berserk and TG are dark, but they use the darkness to tell the story, and nothing is done just because it's dark. Blue Lock has characters swearing often and calling each other retards just because. Joker society memes are edgy, Bill Burr jokes tend to be dark.

I'm drawn into this after the philosophy of how you become strong in JJK, like how Gojo was trying to get Megumi to be more ambitious and selfish, and how the only way to reach the peaks of jujutsu is to focus on your own desires and wants and controlling the world around you. It's a new take for shonen, and I think it makes for very fascinating character development

actually, the essence of the blue lock series is actually very realistic, especially if your role is a striker, whose main job on the field is to get up to the opponent's goal area, to either provide an assist to a player who is more open for goal (if your options are minimal in front of goal. just like how Isagi did in the first chapter... which he regretted) or the MAIN JOB which is TO SCORE GOALS. if you are a football player and fan like me, you may already have an understanding of how the sport functions and you may know of players like Ronaldo and Messi, the goats of football, both being the most iconic names in the world of sports. and they both have dominated the sport for almost 15 to 16 years and counting despite their growing age. and the essence of egoism that the series is building around is a real thing in football actually, and in most sports altogether. footballers like Ronaldo and Messi are only the best in the world because they have a sense of selfishness, an ego that drives them, an ego that ALWAYS TELLS THEM TO WIN, AND ONLY WIN, AND TO SCORE GOALS. It this ego or essence that they have that makes them the greatest of all time in football... and I'm 100% positive other big-name sports players for example in basketball, we have LeBron and Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, who 100% for sure have this same essence in their play... in how they became the best... so bashers that have a hard time understanding this, clearly grew up to not just the traditional shonen protagonist, but also grew up with the idea that sports are always a team thing.. yes sports are a team thing, especially football... but if you really want to shine, and have a spot with the pro's or even become the best in the sport... you have to live for personal glory, the win, for YOURSELF. you must develop an ego.

One very nice thing I like about this manga is that it is realistic when it comes to consequences: nice people aren't chosen just because they are nice, powerful people aren't just discard because they are bad. For example: Isagi and Nagi chose Barou instead of the other player even though they were aware that Barou was selfish and might actually bring down the team (which he even does in the next match). Or even the fact that luck can sometimes play for the 'bad guy' as well: as we see Rin defeating Isagi by complete luck even though they were both tied in the second phase.

My favorite anime is Haikyu, one where volleyball is one of the most team oriented sports around, seeing a manga like this was pretty jarring. But oddly enough, jarring in a good way. BL has so many fun characters, and they all get ample screen time that often you can't tell really who is going to advance. While yeah, like you said, some moments can be pretty edgy and off putting, BL just has a way of making it *work.* BL is overall a fun and interesting time that any sports anime fan should definitely give a shot.

Really good video, I really like Blue Lock's concept being "ego" the main focus and giving an individualist focus more than the usual teamwork, just a little correction, the artist of Blue Lock is Yusuke Nomura (known for dolly kill kill) and the Story is by Muneyuki Kaneshiro (he's the one who worked on Jagaaaan, not Nomura)

Isagi's ability isnt really individualistic which is the complete anti thesis to every character in the manga. But he forces everyone to make these "chemical reactions" aka trying to make them into some insane combo duo.

I remembered how Isagi on U-20 arc had a very HUGE backlash and bashers both on Twitter and FB. They keep calling him the "main side character" because that arc focused on the Itoshi siblings being like Sasuke and Itachi. It was kind of a joke in the fandom but it went out of hand. Many were so impatient at Isagi's development but honestly, I loved how it's not only the MC is focused in the story (how they think, background story, and etc.), The author gave the readers the opportunity to let us know how they think. Isagi being the only focus would be too "one-sided". Through reading this manga, I was able to realize my lapses as a student and a human in general. It taught me to give myself an opportunity to show off so that I could rise from the ground, independently. It didn't matter if people see me as a "know how" person; why would I be mad at those words when I actually have the potential? Don't hold back, that's what Ego emphasized.

Reading blue lock have been an eye opener for me. Even if it is kind weird sometimes, and also, well, the hisoka vibes dude, i think it helped me a lot during pandemic. I started to look at my surroundings and myself in a diferent light. It really is about creating and building a winner, but, also showing that you need to be able to let go of a lot of shit. Personal shit, family shit, comon sense shit. Haikyuu also has a phrase that makes everything come together, and that is "being good... means being free" and thats only after you put your everything into what you want to acomplish.

6:20 Yes, it is the wrong sport to display selfishness. But it is also the perfect sport for that. It is wrong from a professional perspective, but these are teens. When kids and teens play, everybody wants to outmaneuver 11 players all on their own. Everybody wants to score. And if they are good, it's ok to be selfish and self-centered. The only player who thinks of the team is probably the goalkeeper, because he cannot shine. Rather he can, but can't take the spotlight from the striker, the one who needs to score and when he scores, is 10 times more memorable then saving a strike.

I have been into anime/manga world since my "Inazuma eleven" days when I was a lil kid and used to watch it on tv . When I finished highschool and got my own phone, I finished watching all the seasons from Inazuma Eleven. Sports anime hits diff , Since then I have watched "Days" a football anime by Mappa and currently reading football manga Ao Ashi and Bluelock. I love the artwork, the dialogues and the egos of the characters from Bluelock. If you are a football player or a football fan like me, you get hooked into it 😁

what drew me to blue lock is kinda the idea of individuality in sports being primary theme witch as someone who did a more individual sport of cross country I relate to alot more then other sports anime wail with your teem you train together engorge each other during a race even if you try to push each other its you also want to beat them out by the end of it and beat out what you yourself have done in the past aswell as the nevers and anxiety that come with it but their will never be a cross country anime mostly because its not really a thing in japan and id be kinda boring to watch but blue lock has the idea of wail working with the teem to improve but also to beat them out and the teem revolving around the best player also trying to climb up the ranks by beating your your past performance is kinda a simmler feeling it also helps that every charchter is not right in the head

I've been watching football for a very long time and one thing that Blue Lock absolutely nails on the head is that Asian culture (particularly Japanese) is not suitable for the production of elite football players largely because of its emphasis on self-sacrifice and playing one's role. Many Japanese (and Asian in general) players have made it to the top of European football but as Blue Lock states but they almost always make it in the positions of defensive midfielder, defender or full back, all positions centered around being a 'cog' within a larger machine. Doing their part but no more than that. The positions of forward/attackers are dominated by European and South American players even African often times because these regions culturally emphasise individualism far more than teamwork. Heung-min Son is a real life Korean football player who broke this trend but other than him, there really aren't any other Asian players in history or on the horizon for the future that look like they'll break the cycle of producing role-players rather than stars. Blue Lock is the perfect manga for avid football fans and it is intricately researched and presented from the perspective of a heartbroken Japanese football fan. Say what you want, but its themes are written to perfection.

Only really knowing shonen. I knew this manga had me when we’re introduced to a character set up as a traditional “sun” to the main character. However, instead of isagi deciding to cap himself to this person he likes. He chooses himself decides to be the best and instead meets Bachira a true friend who pushes him to not leave each other behind. Having a story subvert to honoring your ego is very interesting and I enjoy every chapter

Idc what ppl saying...reading Blue Lock make me change my position from defender to a striker...coz u know...we all play sports for the spotlight...they also teach me how to refine my specialty in order to be a good striker...before this i only have speed..but now..i discover i also have a good knuckleball...its almost like my default shooting skill for me...its easier for me to do it instead of a normal one...even my friend is weird why i can do it easily 😅...so basically..Blue Lock change the way i think...if u think u're only that... u're wrong...u just need to know how to work with what u have...i regret playing as a defender n wasted my youth playing that role😂

It sounds like Blue Lock would be a very weird read for anyone with much familiarity with football, such as people who grew up playing it, or come from major footballing countries (such as England, Germany, Brazil, Cameroun, Argentina, Ghana, etc.) . It's easy for a basketball player to buy into the individualism thing given it's only 5 a side. But football is completely different. It's still quite interesting to hear the take of people from the few places where football isn't a very big deal (such as the 2 countries that call it soccer, or ones that barely get through the group stages) because you don't often get to hear what they think of the game. It's like listening to a foreigners opinion about your country after they've taken a shirt vacation there, or seen stuff online. It's not much, but you can still learn from them because of their unique perspective.

Not trying to hate the manga or anime, but a few complaints: 1. Japan got 15th place in the 2018 FIFA world cup, a place HIGHER than Argentina, and Lionel Messi was playing the year. 2. The world cup isn't about who's the better nation or anything, it's about different cultures coming together and putting aside their problems to support the players. 3. In this manga, Japan's loss is such a big deal, how do you think Africa feels? We hardly ever qualify for the top 10 stages in the FIFA Cup. No hate or any form of shade...I'm just stating my opinion, man.

I like Blue Lock cuz it does some things that I feel like are waaaaayyyy more realistic compared to the other more "realistic" sports series. Like the shit talking. If anybody ever played some sports than you know ppl talk shit and they get disrespectful. I remember fights breaking out dam near every day at the court over some shit that was said. It also reflects how people play irl. Especially in street sports. Nobody is trying to play fundamentals lol Everyone wants to be the superstar.
