10/10 build for me! Theres something about a small NA motor to me, the "less is more" theory! The ONLY thing he needs to complete the build are 2 holes in the hood to get in some FRESH air, that rotary engine bay runs HOT. And have 2 "snorkels" built in to the under side of the hood that have a rubber seal around the top of the carbs. He wont gain much hp, but you will RETAIN as much hp as you have longer by the cooler air. On a hot day that carb setup can lose 10-20hp from hot air intake temps.
@Beansswtf2 жыл бұрын
Mx5's have actually been proven to have hotter engine bay/intake temps by having holes in the hood haha, same thing happens when people remove the factory plastic undertray also. Obviously not a factory engine, but in theory the science should stay true
@ralkia2 жыл бұрын
@@Beansswtf Not to be that guy but... source? It could depend on where the cutouts are made since they may affect airflow, but the engine bay isn't going to spontaneously get any warmer when you vent it more lol.

@@ralkia Guy Bean is right, it all has to do with airflow and creating a vacuum so hot air gets sucked out of the engine bay. Just cutting holes could lead to a hotter engine bay.

@jaimegrant7842 жыл бұрын
What has he done to the engine? I see it has a Weber 48 IDA. This tends to hint at at least a street port. That will give you at least 180HP compared to the stock Miata 116HP. It definitely isn't bridge ported though. That would put it more in the 250-275 HP bracket. I nearly put a 300 HP peripheral port 13B into my na Miata years ago. Having a daughter on the way put an end to those plans though. Now that the kids are grown, I'm currently putting a race ported 12A into a highly modified Triumph Spitfire. Should be loads of fun
@Mantenner2 жыл бұрын
Those power figures seem insane, is that really true? With the differences being strictly porting? I had a mate with a bride port renesis and he barely put down 150hp at the wheels, I know they're a bit gimped compared to a regular 13b but surely not 100hp different with the same ports.
@jaimegrant7842 жыл бұрын
@@Mantenner the power figures I gave are at the crank. The figure you gave for your buddies renesis seems very low. A stock Rx8 made more than that. He may have had some issues with that motor. With each port, the power band changes too. You must rev it higher to get the power. My peripheral port 13b idled at 2500 rpm. And that was a rough idle. It smoothed out at 4000 rpm. But at 7000 rpm, it was like you got shot out of a canon. And it just got better up to 10, 000. A bridge port likes it up there too. Perhaps they didn't take it high enough on the dyno. He would need to take it to at least 9000rpm to see peak horse power.
@chrishuyler35802 жыл бұрын
@@Mantenner A good running renesis should put 185+ hp at the wheels. This FC 13b with just intake/header/exhaust is probably around 160-170hp at 7,000 RPM with the ports holding it back from making higher RPM power. And yes, an N/A 13b can make 300 crank hp (250+ to the wheels) with the right porting and supporting mods.
@RoadsUntraveled2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's been awhile since I've driven a stock NA. My power assessment was strictly butt dyno talking haha, my mistake. I doubt it makes anything close to 180HP. I was driving an ND MX-5 again last week and it was MUCH quicker than this NA. Like a lot.

2:30 "you have less power here than a stock NA 1.6" that is factually not true. I used to own a 1991 FC convertible, which was NA. That car made around 160hp when it was new, whilst the NA Miata only made around 110-130hp.

Great video! I'm pretty sure that I saw this car at an autocross, and other than being a bit overdriven it was quite impressive, I didn't even realize that it was rotary powered until my friend pointed it out. It looks like a blast to drive and that's all that matters as you can have big HP numbers but totally ruin a cars driveability. It was nice to see Chilliwack represented, as you were filming right in my neighbourhood where I go running, and I also use that same route to test out my project cars on! If I can get my act together( I blew the axle out of it last weekend) maybe you'd like to test out my 1972 Porsche 914 it's got a 300+HP 1.8t big turbo (for its time that I started putting it together early 2000's) Boxster transmission and is mostly fiberglass so it only weighs 2080 pounds with half a tank of gas. I need to put a new clutch in it as it started to slip and won't hold past 5000 rpm now, and now they sent me the wrong size axle as I'm having to upgrade to Porsche 930 CV's. Should be a couple videos of it on my youtube page, if you're interested click my icon.
