Andrew Masters honestly use two apex 205’s and crush them with BLA 173’s and a real nice Compressor going in. Sounds awesome Man.

Wow - these results were surprising. I hope you can get two R88s soon so we can hear what it sounds like with it as the room and overhead at the same time.

Or you could "re-amp" the drum mix through a loudspeaker and record the R88 as your room mic. I've had the R88mk1 for 15 years now and it's still my go2 for Drum OH's!
@johnnewtoniv16374 жыл бұрын
to me the overhead example sounded better than the processed example when it was on room, honestly picked up such a nice balance of the kit you could probably just use the overhead and kick mic and have a totally usable sound

I agree. I have an MK1 and the mount is just horrible. Putting it back in the case also causes my blood pressure to skyrocket every time, but it sounds damn good. Try some one mic things sometime with a band or solo artist, that's my favorite thing to do with it!

You should record some brass instruments with it. Ribbon mics are the only way to go when recording brass. And if you know some skilled brass players I bet they would sound amazing using that.

ok i know where overheads positions are and how to know where to put them, but where do i set a room mic, is there like a rule, how far from the kit or how far from the wall or something like that
@AndrewMasters4 жыл бұрын
Dulla Bills You could probably find some rules somewhere, I typically think of the type of sound I want and go from there, bigger the sound, the further away! Maybe I’ll do a video on this... hmmm!
@dulla84694 жыл бұрын
@@AndrewMasters is it used to pick up the ambience of the room, like the natural reverb of the room?
@AndrewMasters4 жыл бұрын
Yes exactly, it’s more of a natural sound to our ears. It’s much less natural for us to have our ear 2-3 inches off of the drums

Yep. They're both amazing, the active is better with softer sources like strings or acoustic guitar etc since it has better S/N. Both insane mics.
