I’ve never had a baby and it kinda grosses me out but I recently saw a woman I follow process and bury her placenta while planting a tree in her yard. So the placenta would give the tree nutrients and be a symbol of the life she brought into the world. Getting past my initial icky feelings about bodily stuff, it was actually quite sweet. Eating the placenta would probably make me puke and posting about it online is a little bit to unpack but also, I eat ass so to each their own.

To go into this further, the patterns aren't generic sewing patterns. If you want a fursuit, you need to make something called a "duct tape dummy". You put on a painter's suit, then have someone put strips of duct tape over it until you have basically and imprint of your body. Then the fursuit maker uses that to custom make the sewing patterns for your fursuit.

A few years ago, I went to a convention that the confederate flag fursuit guy _tried_ to go to. I say "tried", because he got run out of the convention before it started. He's been banned from most furry cons and was arrested in 2017 for refusing to leave a con he had been banned from. Regarding the furry... I have even worse news. I'm a cosplayer and costume designer with some sewing knowledge and I... really believe that the stripes on that fursuit are not painted on. Those look sewn in. Painting fake fur is really difficult and usually doesn't end up looking too great. That design was probably sewn into the pieces before the full suit was constructed. That was done intentionally by the person who made the suit.

I agree. The line between the "cringe" can be complicated for me too. I like, though, how she separates the odd "cringe" from the offensive cringe. She doesn't dig into the fact that the racist furry is in fact a furry, or the appearance of the buff fella who randomly trauma-dumped on those girls. As a "neurotypical" person, let me tell you the line between acceptable and unacceptable cringe depends on the people who see it. No, seriously. Sometimes it's the difference between teens who haven't thought things through yet thinking it's not cringe while an adult would clutch their pearls, sometimes it's whether they're into the same subjects/hobbies, sometimes it's whether they know you or not. To use the fanfiction example, there will for sure be people who find it cringe and people who couldn't care less. I don't read much fanfiction but from my experience, oc/yn x character is something most fanfiction writers do at some point. Even if i haven't written any of that personally, i started my writing by doing fanfiction where i'd fill in timeskips or backstories for existing characters. That said, how you go about it can become cringe. Like if you ever see those r/ writingwomen or whatever it's called where it's obvious they don't understand how the human body works but make a misconception very obvious and cringy.

Ok I just looked the placenta thing up and it seems that in multiple cultures it is a tradition to eat the placenta either very soon after the childbirth or after the child turns 1 year old. There have been debates about it being considered cannibalism. I also found it weird at first, but cultural traditions like this can seem weird to us and others who have not taken part in them.

I mean technically yes it would be cannibalism because even just eating your own snot can be considered cannibalism. Some cultures refuse to acknowledge that they partake in soft cannibalism because they only think of the Donner Party when they think of the word while others understand that not all forms of cannibalism are morally dubious/outright morally bad and thus probably wouldn't have an issue considering the placenta eating thing to be cannibalism. You can definitely argue whether those forms of cannibalism are gross (the placenta thing is absolutely revolting to me), but they can be considered gross while also not being considered a moral failing. It's when you start getting into cannibalism that involves the taking of full body parts/a whole life, that we start really getting into a moral issue.

It had to be hand sewn because it's faux fur and it would be very difficult to sew on the stripes and stars with a machine so the person who bought the suit (I'm assuming they bought it) probably had to pay a very hefty amount of money to get it made. As someone who used to be a furry, that confederate flag guy is infamous in the furry community. He’s been banned from every convention, and even got a new suit but people still recognized him and got him kicked out again. You know you fucked up when you make literally the entire furry community cringe. He even founded a failure of a convention called “free fur all” which was supposed to be a convention for all the cancelled/conservative furries but only like five people showed up and they were pretty much all well-known predators/zoophiles. Edit: also fursuits are all custom made by other furries. It’s like an art form in and of itself and a surprising amount of fursuits (maybe like 30%) were actually made by the person who wears it.
