I have sleep paralysis and I can say that it's insanely scary. You're unable to move, some people are able to open their eyes while others can't. Sometimes it ends there, other times there's hallucinations, it can range from only audio all the way to visual. I've had cases where I hear a young girl laughing running up and down the hallway outside my door to straight up black figures entering my room and going up to my bed and just hovering over my face. The worst part about it is that for some reason you're body is already in a flight mode. You'll already be panicking and hyperventilating even if it has happened to you multiple times and you're used to it. So yea it's literally the worst.

​@@bubumessi28 Technically, yes and no. Some people have never experienced sleep paralysis, while others might have had it multiple times. If I recall it often occurs when you're sleep deprived, but it can also happen if you wake up suddenly during REM sleep. I think stress also plays a role in it as well. I personally have only ever had it happen twice in my life and that was almost 10 years ago.

@@bubumessi28 There's a lot of factors to factor in for someone that gets sleep paralysis. Sometimes it's bad sleeping habits while for others it's due to an underlying problem like sleep apnea where they don't get enough REM sleep. Though for some people they just don't get it even with these factors while others get it without these factors. It's really weird. I've also heard that if you sleep on your back and almost straight like a log you're more prone to it happening.

Having sleep paralysis as a kid was the worse thing ever mine was really bad because it would restrict my breathing i was able to fight it and turn my body to the left if right to make my body awake and it can last forever if you don’t do anything if you have it trying not to panic it will make things worse. Ugh I've had sleep paralysis regularly ever since I was 7. It made me afraid to fall asleep at night. My child self developed a method where I would fall asleep with a finger in my mouth so that when it happened, I could try to bite it to wake myself up. As an adult, I still use this method as you can often feel sleep paralysis coming on. I also sleep with a pillow over my head (much to my friends' amusement) so I don't have to see what lurks in the darkness. It is absolutely terrifying regardless as it's not always sight that gets us but sometimes sound.

I've also had sleep paralysis a bunch of times, and I've seen some scary stuff. But I learned how to get out of the paralysis using what I call the "Kill Bill method". If you haven't watched that movie, there's a scene in the first one, when the main character wakes up in a hospital, and she is paralyzed from the waist down. She looks at her legs and concentrates on one of her toes, and keeps telling it to move (in a calm manner). This has always worked for me, and usually I'm able to get out of sleep paralysis within minutes. I usually close my eyes and then focus on my right arm, and I keep thinking "move the right arm" while also trying to move the muscles like you would normally do. Once I get my right hand moving the whole body starts waking up, and boom, presto. No more paralysis. Edit: the trick is to not panic, stay calm, and don't try to force yourself to move, just focus and move one body part.

apparently sleep paralysis happens to ppl who can lucid dream. im like halfway there to lucid dreaming cause ive always been aware that im in a dream, but my dreams are in 3rd person so i just watch what i do and feel the feelings of my "character." but ive had sleep paralysis once (albeit not scary, it was of my cat wanting attention. i was just worried it was an emergency) and im scared of it happening again-cause it can-but with a scary creature lol also u probably wouldnt wanna stay up, cause doing that will basically ensure nightmares as your body tries to produce the chemicals it missed from lack of sleep. so itd probably make ur sleep paralysis worse when u do fall asleep

I used to get sleep paralysis frequently during middle school- high school. It started with the sound of a scary lady whispering in a foreign language or tongue and into a manic laugh then it happens. A repetition of me slowing fighting my way up falling asleep over and over for what felt like hours. Sometimes it was the black figured bald thing sneaking onto my bed. It graped me once. I dont believe it’s actually happening because I’ve done tests like falling asleep with my finger on speed dial when it happens (that’s how frequent it got) and even though at the time of the paralysis i successfully dialed, I checked my phone records and there were no calls. So I think it’s purely in the brain.

my sleep paralysis only lasts like 5 seconds if i notice it. like when i realise i cant move or talk but i cans ee some of my surroundings and i can hear sounds from my head i just wiggle my toe and try to blink my eyes. i know, funny but actually useful.. especially when you regularly have sleep paralysis, its annoying and you get used to it so you know what to do.
