In my early 20s bought stuff with credit card couldn’t afford. During the pandemic I had focused on Need vs Wants. It was clear to me, so I bought what I can afford to pay off end of the month. The school system doesn’t teach financial independence because they want you to fail.
@petelee2477
@petelee2477 Жыл бұрын
Only buying what you can afford with money that you have(credit is not money and you were an idiot for thinking otherwise) is common sense and something that really shouldn't need to be taught. The correct way to diversify your portfolio, how a 401k works, risk management, and how to build credit are skills that need to be taught. You have nobody to blame but yourself if you thought credit was the same as money.

It’s sad because people are doing this and getting in debt to fit in with peers or family etc. I had my own battle of financial war and still working on it myself. You either be disciplined or you cause financial ruin. I’m barely paying back my debts I’ve caused working on 9000$ as we speak and managing what I have open rn as best as I can. We all have to learn and it sucks many of us weren’t taught nothing about it so our learning ends up us being in it (for some). I’m just glad people are willing to give us a wake up call and help those who really want help and I hope everyone finds a solution and gets a better relationship with money. It’s not easy I know from my own experience. But we got this ❤🙏🏾

This lady is oblivious to her daily spending. She needs to make a daily expense journal and write down every single thing she spends money on each day. After a couple of months, she can see where her money is going. Then she can make some changes that could benefit her.

I used to feel bad for my student debt, but at least I am paying it off and not spending as much money on dumb things. I work two full-time jobs to pay it all off, and I'm applying for grad school so I can get a better-paying job. I do have to cut Amazon spending around the holidays, but that's it. I took the Amazon app off my phone and unsubscribed from promotional emails.

For food delivery - it's ok if you have nothing, better than sitting on your rear and making nothing, and that's her situation! She needs to do delivery every day until she gets a job. For insurance? I get an insurance rider - just 8$/month, then no worries about liability.

When I was in high school we had an elective called “Business Math”. Basically taught us to do everything from check writing/balancing to loans/interest calculation. From filing taxes to budgeting income. Luckily I’ve always had an interest in finances and I really enjoyed the class. Really think we throw people to the wolves when we send people out at adult hood without this knowledge. Not saying this is or isn’t their fault but I think classes like that would make people more cautious with financial decisions

Coming from someone who used to work in the gig economy for food delivery/grocery delivery, what really helped me keep working a lot of hours was keeping track of my daily earnings and seeing how each day contributed towards my financial goals or hitting the income threshold I needed to get by. I started seeing daily income as a little game, and started trying to beat the previous “high score“

Imagine doing the same with an actual job. The bonus is health insurance and paying into your retirement, set hours, etc. Of course, this only applies if the job is going to pay more than Uber does. But you’re not making anything with rideshare with the current state of the economy. Too many costs to do business vs driving to a job and your car sitting there not being used.
@E-Nigma_
@E-Nigma_ Жыл бұрын
@Kemet89 Yeah, but no gig workers are making enough to take advantage of what you’re talking about. Especially if they have bills. The gig economy is slowly eroding away. People who do it are barely breaking even. Now if it’s supplemental income or you’re in a situation where you don’t have expenses beyond gas and vehicle maintenance, then yeah it can be a positive. I think the time driving would be better spent job searching/acquiring a skill.

@@E-Nigma_ Well I did this while I was in ther gig economy while in college. It's how I paid for my bills. I work as a software engineer so I'm good now lol In CA, I did make a decent amount working delivery tbh
@E-Nigma_
@E-Nigma_ Жыл бұрын
@@mikeyserrano9748 How long ago was this? Things are different from a few years ago. The profit margins have eroded significantly. In college, all you have to worry about is breaking even, especially if you’ve taken out loans. In life, you need something more sustainable, that’s my only argument. Gig work is extremely exploitative. If you’re working software in California, you entirely understand the point I’m making. And since you once participated in the gig economy, you have even more experience with this understanding. I’m willing to bet you wouldn’t trade your current job for gig work. Night and day difference.
