Granted it was just preseason, but JJ looked really good. I'm not talking about stats, I'm talking about his touch and awareness. Unless we plan to trade darnold, assuming we go to super bowl as stated, for good draft capital there's really no reason to pay him 30 mil(which is probably what he'll get offered). More likely he gets the franchise tag than an extended contract imo.

QBs get injured. You for sure extend Darnold and keep progressing JJ. I will think back to a guy named Joe Montana and his backup Steve Young. It worked out well for both. Just look at Darnold himself. He was rushed into playing and most thought he was garbage by time he got here. You have to look long term here. This is how you build up a decade plus dynasty, not just a one-two year wonder. There is no guarantee that JJ would slide right in and be the same at least as Darnold. You don't rush this, be smart

To be fair, darnold didn't struggle because he was rushed into the starter, he struggled because the jets were garbage including coaches. His time elsewhere was the same issue, this is his first good opportunity to show the qb he actually is. As for extending him, i see him getting franchise tagged and traded next year part way through the season for JJ to take over completely. If he is cheap enough maybe we do re-sign him, but figure he gets offered 30 mil per year elsewhere.

14. My hubby is a long-time USC fan and already was very familiar with Sam's talent. He stated Sam should have stayed at USC another year to help him develop more. Sam is definitely talented. Kevin can bring out the best from any QB and Sam is thriving here. If it's not broke, why fix it? Sam is working WELL within the Vikings framework. That's a win-win. We want to go ALL THE WAY. I believe my husband when he says that Sam can take us there. SKOL.

NO to extending Sam Darnold. It is all about the rookie contract and being able to afford better players. Paying Darnold big time money to stay would lose your good players on Defense. Just like Cousins and Zimmer. Zimmer hated Cousins because his defense went to crap after they signed him and then the GM and Zimmer had it out cause of it. JJ will be just fine if not better and is 5-6 years younger. KOC will make JJ a star as he did Darnold, but cheaper to keep the defense intact

2 year 55m is wild for Sam Darnold. You have to remember that Sam Darnold has arguably the best offense of mind behind him and also the best receiver core in the league. Not to mention a solid running game and a pretty good offensive line. Sam Darnold has played well this year but if he was on another team the chances of him playing the same is slim. Id offer Sam Darnold a 2 year 10m contract plus incentives up to 15m. Because the possibility of him being on the bench behind McCarthy is still high. It was a strong debate before the season was going to start.

Pump the brakes on tagging someone with a franchise is my opinion. Thats in light of this season's events, mixed with JJ being hurt. I think everyone should acknowledge that Sam is playing very well, but we did see some of what JJ has to offer during preseason and we had plans for him. Let this season play out, keep it real with everyone. I wouldn't make a decision until the end of the season. A rash decision now could affect the team for years.

Kirk was too conservative to ever throw aggressive deep balls until it was all or nothing. Dobbs essentially saw his cieling if capabilities, as has Mullens. KOC is a fantastic coach, but you can't make diamonds from rocks. It has to have been coal at one point.
