Scripture is quite clear about helping the poor. Poor doesn't always equate laziness. That is judging by appearances. Only God knows our hearts whether or not someone is honestly struggling or if someone is truly lazy. Churches judged me for being homeless yet didn't do much to help me. I didn't ask for money either. The church is supposed to teach people how to fish instead of just giving them a fish. No one helped me with a resume, clothes for an interview, how to interview, transportation to a job, etc. Its easy to just throw scripture like if you don't work then you don't eat, than to get involved and actually lend a helping hand.

All churches and people in churches are not necessarily better at following the word of God than those on the outside of church. They sin and are flawed like everyone. People may judge you, but this is not God's way. Most American Christians don't actually follow the way of Jesus, but dont be discouraged. Pray for them and forgive them for their judgemental ways.

I hate to be that guy, but when talking about “what about the risk?” What do you say to the guy who has taken the risk and lost thousands of dollars? I get that things happen, but this can be monumental to come back from, and its not always a lack of money management or a lack of faith that causes it. Sometimes things happen.
