Great to see you're covering my MOD! As a fellow Dutch person: Dank je wel! :) Some pointers: - As you've mentioned: it's in alpha stage, so bugs and missing features/content are to be expected. For instance, the detail textures on Blast Pit were not done yet in version 0.65. I decided somewhere halfway that I wanted to do detail textures too, so I'm still playing catchup adding those details to the older chapters. - The map selection menu isn't really a menu. It's actually a map with a trigger camera and some tricks to make it work this way. I would also have prefered a GUI based menu but I'm not a very good coder. As I've heard from very experienced HL coders: the VGUI used in Half-Life is a nightmare to work with, so realistically I'm never going to be able to code that myself. I've released a new version (0.70) yesterday which includes the chapter Lamdba Core and a lot of fixes for Blast Pit (including those detail textures!).

Half Life restored is one of my favorites due to it's attempt bring back most cut content in the current retail version, adds to the experience, but having a chapter selection in OG Half-Life seems SOOOOOOOOOOOO Nice

Half life extended is my favorite, because it merge the arsenal with the expansions, i was hyped seeing Gordon using the Deagle, also it restore cut areas and entities like the Panthereye creature man it refreshes the HL experience. The only thing i will say to both modds is to allow the HD models for characters. I really like the HD version of the security guard and these mods doesn't use them and if you force replace them yourself they are buggy like not seein their weapon in hand as example. So they should consire the option to use HD model for those that preferred them

This feels like the sort of rework players actually wanted instead of HL: Source. If I could ask the dev for another thing that'd impact the gameplay more significantly it'd be inheriting some of the better ideas from Black Mesa: Xen. Not a map overhaul, but the way the jump boost pack works. 1) No falling damage anywhere in Xen 2) the ability to cancel the jump by holding the back key in mid air

It looks like it's been updated to the standards of counterstrike condition zero/deleted scenes, which is a nice target of reference because even tho people usually don't like that version in particular i kind of think it looks more polished than counterstrike source for instance.

What I would absolutely love is a System Shock style RPG mod for Half Life allowing us to explore all of Black Mesa while we loot crates lockers cabinets drawers etc and bodies. We would also upgrade our suit and find accessories for our weapons like a silencee. The addition of an inventory to manage would be a cool change of pace

for me the definitive half life 1 experience would probably be half life enriched maps + half life 1 mmod weapons and level select ( i like mmods level select more and enriched ) just like half life 2 update + mmod but i have no experience in half life 1 modding so id have no idea how to merge those two together and im not expecting someone to mix half life enriched with half life 1 mmod anytime soon

I've messed around for quite a bit and have noticed a lot of changes for the best, especially the reflections. I have have many half life remasters and mods, the best being in XASH3d. Especially the BMS classics from UT&G. I have managed to add mods to Xash3d too with excellent results. Keep up the good work.

Strong possibility that Hezus is a more phonetic spelling of the Spanish (Mexico) pronunciation of Jesus. Jesus is a VERY common name there and, while spelled Jesus, is pronounced Hey-Zeus. Side fact: A small percent go by the nickname Chewy. (I don't have an answer to that one, though).

The best mods I've played are those that retain the original feel of the game but improve its flawed aspects. Totailtarian is a master of such mods, he released GMDX for Deus Ex and Unreal Evolution for...well, Unreal. Recently Turok 2 Plus as well. In GMDX for example, he refined the combat AI (which was terrible), balanced the game better (health regeneration aug is nerfed by 75% and is still OP, so guess how OP it was in the original). I mean these are all S-tier games, fucking milestones in gaming history. But they all have flaws. Major flaws. Half-Life's last 1/4th of the campaign is bad. Clearly rushed, boring, unfun. Deus Ex has skill and augmentation balance all over the place, some skills are completely useless while others are so strong that they outclass anything else. This was the case in System Shock 2 too. Oblivion - oh boy, where do we begin. Why even have a speechcraft skill if we can bribe with gold instantly, or cast a beginner spell that lasts 2 seconds but has high magnitude. The game pauses when talking to NPC's so duration doesn't matter. When a game grows complex, stacks sytems upon systems that interlock with eachother, the number of flaws grows. A simple game like Super Mario on the NES is pretty much perfect. Very few mechanics, simple level design, they just had to make a fun game with good, responsive controls. They did. The game is so perfect, that 40 years of speedrunners hacking it to bits wasn't enough to find any gamebreaking glitch. A world-record speedrun still needs to complete all the levels a normal player would in order to beat it. There is no magic warp to last boss like in many other (newer) games.

Overall it looks pretty good but the natural terrain rock textures still look bad. I love the aesthetic of Half Life but i'll admit that the rock/cliff textures have always looked ugly.

Because Half-Life and Black Mesa are significantly different games and run on different engines. There are people who prefer the former to the latter and vice-versa.
