I left home at 18 to make my own way in life…so did my daughter at 19…to make her way in life…you need to teach your child independence..responsibility and solve their own problems..you have to loosen or cut the apron strings…which often makes for better communication and relationship between parents and their kids…because they are less likely to sponge off you…but always let them ask you for advice..don’t tell them what to do..and reassure them they are always welcome home.

Buying and renting property has reached such ridiculous levels that it’s hardly surprising children who are young adults are being robbed of their independence. It’s so unfair that they have to rely on their parents and live at home at the age of 30 plus but what choice do they have?! It’s a serious problem and one that any future government has a responsibility to deal with.😡

Agree agree agree agree!!! Other European countries buy a house or apartment to live in, to become a home. Not to make a business and live off other people’s suffering. Unfair that homes are so expensive to rent that’s it’s almost impossible. Plus…. If adult children don’t move out, they won’t have husbands and wives or partners and will not even contemplate the idea of having children, and in turn we will ALL suffer the consequences of not having the next generation to pay taxes, to train in crucial jobs and to keep the country moving. It’s all connected to the other, and if the government lets the banks get away with insane rates, landlords with insane requirements and insane rent prices then we all suffer. Time to put a cap in things.

Why should the government be expected to use taxpayers money to help young people buy or rent property…it’s the banks and lenders that need regulating…and the parents responsibility to teach their children how to be independent and to work for their money to support themselves…young people regardless of age should not expect the government to bail them out with welfare or handouts..they won’t learn anything about responsibility…besides don’t you think the government give enough hand outs to people..this is the problem nowadays..everyone expects the government and taxpayers to foot the bill for handouts…and this is why the government struggles to keep up with the demands people expect.

I’m 30 with my own home. Managed it without parents help. People have to take responsibility for their own failings.

@@blondie4 wow your life must be…. Wonderful! Not everyone has the same chances, it’s not about fallings. You could be in a stable relationship with a good pay etc etc…. One partner dies… all crumbles. Everyone has different ways of living life and possibilities do not reach everyone… no matter how hard you work.

@@blondie4 You are very lucky but possibly unrealistic, out of touch and unsympathetic.I have an adult son who works 6 days a week in a reasonably well paid job which he’s had for some years now.He is currently paying £2,000 rent a month for a small apartment. There’s no possibility of his getting on to the property ladder, the deposit demanded before even becoming eligible for a mortgage is well out of reach for most first time buyers and the interest levels are crazy. This is not a situation pertaining only to my grown up children but to one many young adults are facing. With all the other financial commitments and daily demands that go with living independently, there are millions struggling with ever increasing inflation and other problems.I suggest that apart from giving yourself a pat on the back, you read up on the stark reality of the situation and show some compassion and understanding for those less fortunate than yourself!
