One of my favorite parts of the whole movie is Kevin Kline (Otto) telling Archie's wife that if it wasn't for the U.S. they'd all be speaking German and then proceeding to sing the WWII era version of the German National Anthem. The whole movie is hilarious, but that part along with Ken accidentally murdering those poor dogs (and the funeral scenes) still make me laugh out loud! Thank you, Aria for making my day by checking this one out!! Its always so much fun just to see you enjoy a good comedy! Oh, and for what it's worth... The part where Otto smells his armpits before the comedic sex scene? You wouldn't believe how many guys ran around smelling their armpits after this movie came out! So stupid, but so funny! One last thought... You do of course realize how inappropriate it is for you to laugh that hard at Ken's stutter when Archie is questioning him? Hilariously funny to watch you crack up at it (as does everyone) but tsk tsk... Inappropriate! 🤣

Probably not real reaction material, but you might find them entertaining. Around the World in 80 Days, where he tries to travel around the world in less than 80 days without using air travel, Pole to Pole, where he travels from the North Pole to the South Pole, and Full Circle, where he circumnavigates the Pacific Ocean, all with the usual Michael Palin humor.

The problem with Fierce Creatures was A Fish Called Wanda. By which he meant that Wanda was such a massive success, Fierce Creatures could never live up to it and would always be compared unfavourably. And people assumed that because it was the same cast it’d be the same sort of film, and were disappointed that it wasn’t.

Kevin Kline first met John Cleese on the set of "Silverado" (good western). Kline had total admiration for Cleese's professionalism and wit. They became fast friends. From that point forward - Kevin Kline's acting style took a complete turn. He quickly adapted Cleese's physical comedic style which we get to see for the first time in "A Fish Called Wanda".
@DavidB-22682 ай бұрын
A couple of fun facts: first, the entire movie came about when Cleese and Palin were developing a sketch that involved someone trying to get vital information from someone else who has a bad stutter. It's the only scene they share in the film. Second, the actress playing Portia is played by John Cleese's actual daughter.
@SnabbKassa29 күн бұрын
But the fact that Clleese and Palin get to snog JLC in the script is not exactly a bad thing for them.
@imcrazedandconfused2 ай бұрын
YES. Kevin Kline never had a better role, and it is a movie so deeply in the tradition of Monty Python that it hurts when you laugh about it. They all did not expect the movie to be such a success, but it just hit the nerve at it's time. Wanda - well ... in case you did not notice, the fishes were named by Ken, and Wanda was his most beloved, so yes, Ken was secretly in love with Wanda, probably this is why he stopped stuttering after she kissed him. And why is Otto becoming Minister of Justice in South Africa? Well .... at that time, South Africa still had the ultra-racist Apartheid regime. And they thought it would be funny to let the stupid American have this role in the end ... Yeah, they really beat the shit out of all stereotypes about the US, but you have to admit - the role is, eh, stupidly funny. From the baseball cap up to Otto symbolically killing a baby seal on a poster to show his martial arts. Oh, and it is great how you noticed, that this is probably the only movie where you happily laugh about cute dogs being killed - several times. I think they might have thought about killing kids, too, in this movie, just to try out if they could get away with that, too. It is crazy how this movie proves the point, that you can literally make jokes about EVERYTHING. Something, that the Monty Python guys are famous for. I hope you come back to the the other Monty Python movies at some point. It is so good to see, how much fun you have with their kind of humor. Best regards, and have a great sunday.

Also in the orginal ending, Ken doesnt actually lose his stutter and instead goes something like "wait a minute! Ive lost my stutter! it's g-g-g... it's gggg... it's gggg-gg...", which I think is a lot funnier than him really losing his stutter. When the film stated Otto became the Minister of Justice for South Africa it was a joke making fun of Otto's extreme right-wing character because back in 1986 the Minister of Justice of South Africa was a key figure of apartheid which was an official policy of racial discrimination against non-whites. Suggesting anyone held such a position would be offensive at that time so it was a joke, a dated joke but at the time people understood the subtext.

Of note with Otto's ending is that South Africa at the time that the movie was made was still in the Apartheid era, which was a time of extreme and systemic racism. So, Otto emigrating there and becoming a "minister of justice" basically means he moved somewhere evil to take an evil job. So yes, from his point of view it probably was a happy ending. As to why Otto drives like Mr. Bean? He hasn't figured out that in England they drive on the other side of the street. And being, you know, *stupid*, he assumed that all of the other drivers are assholes instead of even slightly entertaining the idea that he might be in the wrong.

George tasked him with rubbing out the old lady and he took three swipes at killing her _directly._ The first time, he managed to kill one of her _dogs_ and it broke her heart... and his. The second time, he managed to kill _another_ one of her dogs, and again, it broke her heart... and his. The third time, he managed to kill her one remaining dog and she _died_ of broken heart. So he finally _succeeded,_ but _what_ a costly victory. The whole time, Otto has tormented Ken by showing deliberate disregard for the well being of his fish and the other animals on his posters.
