Fun Facts: Filming started in 1986, but was abandoned. Only 2 scenes are from 1986, the rest is from 1989. The totem pole monster and the skeleton head that rips out of a man's stomach are both props taken from the Dokken music video 'Burning like a Flame'. The footage shot in 1989 were shot in just 2 days.

Proving there is no justice in this world, Winterbeast is the director's only movie (and plaid jacket guy's only movie 😥) but Suburban Sasquach"s director has made seven films. And you missed a lot of green leaves and lawns in the background. This was a year-round project. Like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, "Hey, the director found a $20 in the pocket of an old coat! We can film this weekend" Kind of admire that.

And the effects in this, amazingly, look better than most of the stuff in any Wascavage movie. The claymation stuff while not great (really good claymation takes time and money, let's not forget that) still is more bearable than some 2d models added in post. The gore looks more real too. Not hating on Wescavage, just my opinion.

Controversial opinion: The Lodge owner is actually legitimately creepy in this. With the right director and budget, he could've been a big horror icon. He gives me huge low budget giallo movie vibes. I can envision him wearing satin gloves, cutting a fake looking neck while laughing like a maniac.

It's like a home movie from The Twilight Zone, SO exquisitely inept & deranged. You gotta love any film with Box O'Dong, a flaming queen you could smelt copper over - and the Tree Monster is clearly a wooden Gir from "Invader Zim" LOL Oh - did you notice the Playgirl centrefold Ranger guy's hair/stache changes? It's because there was a 3 year halt in filming. This is SOOO awesome... I'm hoping the technology exists when I kick off so this can play on continuous loop on my tombstone. It should also be the National Anthem of SGIB. I am SOOOOO happy you shared this!

It's like Ray Harryhausen if he just stopped caring about his work! Sadly Jason was right. This was Christopher Thies' only movie, into which he probably put all of his meager resources, then unfortunately died in 2015 at the tender age of 50. IMDb says they started filming in 1986, only kept two scenes, then filmed the rest in 1989 so it's another "troubled production" if you can believe it. I wish someone could have made a documentary about how this movie came to exist, as it must be a wild story, but looks like that won't be happening.

Welcome to the Winterbeast Survivor's Club. Therapists are standing by should you need them. I have loved this movie for a long time. The stop motion monsters are awesome and I've always been convinced the one monster was the inspiration for Groot. The Lodge owner's over the top performance is priceless (I'm not even sure he was acting. He might have actually been insane). I've seen actors chew the scenery but I've rarely seen one chew it up and spit it back at the audience. I'm sure you guys noticed the "Bend Over and Touch Your Toes" sign in the lodge which was an odd or humorous center shot placement. To quote a famous and well loved KZbinr: "This move is horrible...and I love it".

i Totally agree, i was gobsmacked when i accidentaly saw this long ago, no ffw, i just stared, gawked as it just got worse & kept climbing - the first movie ever - when i thought "i have to show this to other people, just to see their reaction" The branch in the film actually appears in several shots, i wonder if they had a branchwrangler The Deputy and his dialogue, one wonders what the makers were going for Awesome - thanks!

Although i loved Suburban Sasquatch and this one, i can see why someone would prefer Winterbeast. A lot more effort went into it. The stop-motion stuff alone is so entertaining. At least they attempted special effects and sets.

I did a little research and I think this is in Mass. There's a pennant behind their heads that reads "Mohawk Trail" which is a hiking trail in the Mass mountains. There's also a store sign that reads "Concord....".

7:58 Bro... That music reminds me of the VHS porno movies I found in my dad's "old movie collection" in middle school. I mean the subject matter is different (though not as much as you might think), but the cinematography, score, and leveling is basically identical. I recall being horrified upon seeing one of these films for the first time and (barely) hearing someone utter "that's no way to speak to your mother during our 'family time.'" It killed my soul a little and I never looked at my dad the same way again... I'm just glad I'm his son and that the film scene wasn't all dudes....

I watched every stop motion monster movie I could find when I was a kid, including Clash of the Titans (1981) when it was in theaters. This was thoroughly enjoyable, and I love all of your reactions.

This reminds me of the drive-in classic, "Equinox" from 1970. It's like 'Evil Dead' except the devil shows up as a park ranger and sends monsters after the protagonists to retrieve the magic book and they have no cabin to hide in. Then Ranger The Devil tries to SA the female in the protagonist group but her crucifix repels him, so he turns into a flying demon and a guy gets hit by a VW Beetle. One of the guys who worked on it, Jim Danforth, later went on to work with Harryhausen. Monster effects are better in 'Equinox'. If you remember 'WKRP in Cincinnati' you might recognize one of the actors.
