Despite its historical inaccuracy, this movie is indeed very beautiful, makes me tear up repeatedly no matter how many times I watch it, and has one of my favorite Disney-soundtracks. Kocoum's death always makes me sad, all in all he was a good man and I think he and Nakoma could've made a really good couple. The ending always gives me chills. The sequel however.. I want to like it, but I just haven't been able to rewatch it after seeing for the first time years ago. Maybe I should take the bull by the horns and finally do so soon, but let's see. Thanks for this reaction!

Thanks for reacting to this movie, I get the whole historical inaccuracies but it's Disney and they have a habit of changing stories. They usually do it with fairy tales but Pocahontas was a real person. So this was more historical fiction that depicted English settlers taking over the lands of Native Americans. Plus it was funny that the creators wrote John and Pocahontas to be like Romeo and Juliet despite the massive age gap between the real people who I hope didn't engage in a romantic relationship.

Pocahontas is my favorite Disney Princess. She’s really the first princess to show true bravery and courage. Also, it was the first Disney animated classic to have an interracial relationship, even if it was exaggerated historical fiction. It hurts that because of over sensitivity (aka cancel culture) we may never get a live action Pocahontas. Solely because it has way to much chance to have trolls pick it apart and call it racist. Yes I know the original has racist themes but if anything John and Pocahontas’ message at the end of the movie proves racism will never win. It’s defeated. Still have my fingers crossed for an epic live action of this heroine!!

Not to mention how the upper classes spread blatant lies and misinformation to corrupt the public into believing the natives were the aggressors. A few things are quite odd about this movie though. For example, 41:35 actually seems concerned about Smith's execution. And Powhatan allows his daugther to be with Kocoum's kiIIer, not knowing the truth. And then there's 41:05: Smith is her dream and destiny, and yet he leaves in the end (and she eventually meets John Rolfe, but they probably didn't plan that, so that may not count). Kind of contradictory, isn't it? So does Ratcliffe's "treason" in this movie, since it technically wasn't. Bullet was for Powahtan, not Smith. Personally, I would've just made Smith that red-beared Quincy guy from "The Spirit of Giving" and the woman's lover and friend. The deuteragonist, sure, but not her love interest. I would've made Rolfe that in this movie (unofficially, so they can seal the deal in the sequel). Heck, I would've made Rolfe a nobleman, since that's the closest to a prince if he has no royal blood in him (and fairly make him one of the Disney princes). I would've made him one of the settlers, possibly replacing Thomas so he can still be an important character who isn't the deuteragonist. I would've given half of Pocahontas's moments with Smith to Rolfe, so that her relationship with both Johns can be seen, but it being a more magical with Rolfe and educational for Smith (referencing Colors of the Wind). I would've had him saved by Pocahontas and shot for Powhatan mid-movie so that Rolfe's time with Pocahontas is next). Maybe have John Rolfe captured by the Indians after _Ratcliffe_ shoots a raging Kocoum, out of biased hatred. No wait...I would've made Governor Ratcliffe probably Samuel Argall, to have him kidnap Pocahontas as she tries to give him a basket of food for his crew. Maybe make a deal with Powahtan to exchange prisoners on the battlefield (kind of like how the real Argall did to free his captured crewmen), or simply keep Pocahontas hostage for whatever reason while planning to battle kiII the Inidians for their "gold." I don't know. Any questions you guys have? I always like to discuss my hypothetical visions.

I hate the way whenever this movie airs on TV the lyrics of ‘Savages’ have been changed (too racist apparently). It’s baffling, that’s the entire point of the song and if my 7 year old brain was able to understand the nuance that what they were saying about each other was wrong I don’t understand why that needs to be censored. Savages is an amazing song that pretty much describes the majority of conflict in the world in all of human history. And the repetitive nature of that is something we keep failing to learn from. As for the historical inaccuracies, yeah I get it. But one thing no one talks about was that, for me at least, as a white Brit, in 1995 this was the first time I’d seen Native Americans portrayed as human beings with a culture as opposed to the guys cowboys kill. It’s simplistic, it speaks nothing of the true sophistication of various tribes but watching it as a 7 year old taught me a lot about respect for other cultures, religions, belief systems etc. As an adult, I can know the real history but still enjoy the message that was really underlining this movie. Also, Meeko ❤️

I absolutely love your Disney reactions Cody! I think you should check out (even if it's just on your own time) the deleted scene and song from Pocahontas called "If I Never Knew You". It's beautiful and completely animated but when they tested the movie with child audiences the kids said they didn't really like it, so Disney cut it out completely

I don't really like this movie, but Colors of the wind is my all time favorite Disney song.

This is one of my top favorite childhood's movies. But when I learn the truth of what really happened to Pocahontas it's not for the faint of heart. But yeah, this is a good film and beautiful music and backgrounds. It is a nice cartoon. But the Disney covered up a lot of the truths of what really happened in history of this story. like every story since. Lied to make it child friendly to cover up the really horrible stuff. But either way I liked this reaction, I liked this movie lots. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I have chills every time I hear the music or see a scene of pocahontas, I was obsessed with the protagonist so much when I was a child I always try to imitate the way pocahontas walks when she is squatting (you know in the scene when she is watching john at the river) and now as an adult it still remains my favorite disney movie of all time. I also remember thinking "oh how cute pocahontas and john are together" but growing up now Im like "why did she choose john? Kocoum is soooo much hotter than him" lol

Thanks for reacting to my favourite Disney movie (besides the inaccuracies) the meaning of it is much more profound. It would be amazing if you reacted to FernGully: The Last Rainforest or The Secret of NIMH, if you haven't watched them, you'll definitely love them. Cheers from Spain!! 😃😃😃

Critics back then were pretty divided about Pocahontas due to the historical inaccuracies, but unfortunately they failed to realize that wasn’t the intention of the filmmakers of this movie. Not to mention, there was a special edition of this movie that not many have seen or are aware of. It was never shown in theaters, only on DVD. The “If I Never Knew You” musical sequence during Pocahontas’ meeting with a captive John Smith. It was fully animated already, but removed due to test audiences not liking it. Made teens swoon, but kids were bored.

What’s funny is that this film was made by Disney’s animation A team and this was thought to be their biggest hit. While their B team was working on Lion King.... We all know which of the two won out in the end. Why? Probably cause of the touchy subject matter and general awkwardness most people probably had. Not sure how accurate that is, but that’s just my guess.

I like to think that this is similar to the movie Anastasia. It was about a person that was real but the movie introduced an interesting thought process for me. Just like this movie too. It’s not accurate but it makes me want to research the real characters. The behind the scenes of making Pocahontas is very interesting to watch. The voice actors are Native and enjoyed making the movie it seemed.

This is something some people must know columbus did not discover America. The Native Americans did because thet were already there when they got there.
@ChaoticButterfly2 жыл бұрын
Oh! You watched the original theatrical release version. You should check out the song they later added (it was intended to be in the movie, but they thought it was too late to have that kind of song, so they cut it... if you pay attention during the tent scene between Pocahontas and Smith, you'll notice the background music kinda cuts, weirdly). It was shown during a late 90's play of Pocahontas on ABC, as a sort of behind the scenes thing. They showed a storyboard, then it turned out to be so popular that they later added it to DVD releases for an anniversary edition. It's called "If I Never Knew You."

13:39 the armour question you were asking is cause that’s basically knight armour and it was basically outdated in Europe cause you know GUNS but to some places in Africa, south and North America including the Caribbean that was still the best type of armour to have because when the British and French came over here it was already the 1600-1700’s the end of metal armour and introduction of those cool suits like George Washington wore because metal armour heavy walking around in, plus bullets can still go through it 😂😂
