Definitely gotta watch All-star Superman, the book it’s based on is without the doubt the greatest Superman story ever written. It’s got a scene in it that has actually saved peoples lives. The scene in the book isn’t in the film but it’s for sure worth reading And watching. Oh and Superman unbound and Superman vs the elite are also pretty great. I think my only real complaint about the animated adaptations are that they remove some of Bruce's inner narration. At the beginning of the comic, when he saves himself from the car crash, he thinks 'This would be a good death but not good enough.' I love how this is bookended by the final line of 'This will be a good life. Good enough.'

So, an electromagnetic pulse is one of the secondary effects of nuclear weapons (not to mention all sorts of other things like from the sun or lightning) basically will fry anything electrical or at least knock it out, unless it's inside a Faraday cage. One of the major fears of astronomers and the like are that the sun sends them out due to sunspots and the like, normally they aren't a big deal, but every so often a major smack hits the planet. Historically it wasn't an issue since, no electronics, last one happened in the late 1800s though and telegraph lines just shut down and routing stations started catching on fire. Today though, it would be catastrophic, satellites all over would just fry right out, electronics all over the planets like cell phones, all the systems we use for banking, stock trade, government communications...all the wiring in your cars or transit lines. Everything would just shut off or straight up catch fire. We'd, instantly, go into a state of having no electricity anywhere possibly worldwide...scary thing is it's not a question of if, it IS going to happen again, does once every hundred or so years, and we frankly have nothing set up to deal with it.

maybe a super duper super computer that holds all the worlds data housed in a massive faraday cage. with a sensor that tells when a nova is about to hit then absorbs all data (with pure privacy) while also turning everything off. and after a orecalculated amount of time. it turns everything back on and sends all the data out to the proper devices and clocks off until its needed again. to be fair taking all the data in the world into a central location might make a super computer.

@@byronwalters4756 That's a good start for a plan, though it might not be enough. Unfortunately, it is still a dream as far as I know, we are completely unprepared as of right now. Though I wouldn't be half surprised if some of the big powers (US, China notably) had part of a back up system like that already in place or planned, with double use: solar electromagnetic pulse/ nuclear (or BMD) weapons, given how this second cold war is getting hotter by the second.

@@donflamingo5685 You may be right about "old tech", but it's not old computers like they used in the first moon launches, which will have the same problems as the new ones (ie fried, since they already used transistors, and therefore elecriticy), but rather come back to... paper for information, steam tech (or even horses) for locomotion (or at least engines without any computer in it- which excludes all modern cars, trains, etc unfortunately. In theory, explosion engines could still work, but once rid of anything electrical). At least during a transitory period, we'd have to rely on this "degraded" state of technologies to avoid chaos preventing civilisation from rebuilding everything electronic-based...

I kinda disagree with your opinion on superman. Yeah he's basically a lapdog in this movie but as an alien God he often struggles with how much power he should have over a government that he's not inherently apart of. I really never liked Frank Miller's portrayal of Superman as a tool of the government. While this was *technically* true throughout the 50s and 60s, it was true of *all* superheroes, Batman included. Superman's earliest stories showed him frequently breaking the law and acting as a revolutionary for social justice and change during the Great Depression, not only beating up your average criminal but also beating up dirty cops, corrupt officials, landlords, abusive husbands, wealthy elite, etc. Dark Knight Returns was meant to show a Silver Age law-bound Batman return to his vigilante roots. If that's the case, then Superman should have done the same thing and flipped the bird at the government too.

Remember this movie is telling a story of a different universe, it's not the mainline of DC continuity, it's in the Dark Knight Universe. As a matter of course DC considers Batman: Year One (written by the same author, Frank Miller) to be a canon Batman origin story. That may have changed with New 52 or Rebirth...DC reboots their stuff once in a while, just like all the animated films. The new animated movies coming out will be in continuity with (SPOILERS) ... ... ... .. ... the reset timeline created at the end of Justice League Apokolips War.

Up until this story Joker had been "the Clown Prince of Crime". Robbers will break into a bank an rob it at gunpoint. Joker would use a jack-in-the-box that would explode with tangling streamers tying down all the security and tellers then Joker would dance in and take all the money. After Dark Knight Returns, Joker became a homicidal maniac obsessed with making everyone in the world a psychotic as he was.

I understand what you mean, Superman gets disrespected in so many main-stream interpretations. If you want a story that’ll help you really like Superman I suggest watching All-Star Superman. The comic that the movie is based on is Superman at his best. Edit: also a quick explanation for what’s going on at 23:35 Superman has his powers because Earth’s sun is different from the sun that his home planet Krypton orbited. He absorbs the radiation of the sun and that’s how he’s able to shoot energy out of his eyes and stuff. So he’s draining the energy that the sunflowers absorbed from the sun in order to heal himself. So pretty much he’s doing some photosynthesis shit to get his power back

I forgot I think John Kent Superman's dad is the president in this movie. I like Carrie Kelly. She is a useful Robin and earned the title.

Who's Oliver? Oliver Queen, AKA Green Arrow, one of the founding members of the Justice League in the classic comics and the star of the long-running TV series Arrow. In The Dark Knight Returns continuity, Green Arrow and Superman had a beef when they outlawed superheroes, and Supes took off his arm.

All-star Superman, Red son and man of tomorrow are all interesting. Man of tomorrow is in the same animation as long Halloween and might be in the same universe

If you want to know true sympathy for Joker. I would recommend the 2019 Live Action Joker movie. It’s a great representation of society & see his point of view on why the Joker is the way he is

I might be wrong, but if i remember correctly, the reason that Superman is actling like a douchebag and the government's lapdog her is due to a deal the hero community made with the government, when they outlawed super heroes. That's why Bruce is retired at the beginning of the first TDKR-movie, and as mentioned in this one, Diana (Wonder Woman) went back to her people, Hal (Green Lantern) left the planet, etc.pp and Superman had to play nice and act as the USAs personal enforcer, because his choices were to either a)quit being a hero alltogether (something Clark just CAN'T), b) work unsanctioned as Superman and risk an all out war with the US government or c) play by their rules and continue being Superman, thus being able to still do as much good as possible, even if it leaves a sour taste in his mouth. Which is what he went for. You can see at the end of the movie that he's still Bruce's friend at heart and not completely on the same page with the government. Plus, this is based on a story by Frank Miller and Frank Miller doesn't exactly understand or like Superman, so his depiction of him is not necessarily a definite one. And no, Batman doesn't kill the Joker. Remember the beginning of this movie... Batman calling himself a surgeon. He acts with precision and control. He snapped Joker's neck, yes, but just enough to paralyze him from the neck down. Brutal, yes, but not fatal. Joker then snapped his own neck by twisting his head, because he knew that would make it look like Batman finally killed him and destroy Batman's image in the eye of the public and the police.

A nuclear bomb can cause a pulse that'll destroy electrical systems. So you'll get a power outage and things like cars might die. Also, not good for planes. Superman being an energy vampire is just Frank Miller being weird again. But, yeah Batman, Superman: Public Enemies is a great supes movie and a lot of people have said this already, but All-Star Superman is probably the best Superman movie out there. Also, the Justice League series had some amazing superman episodes. Like For the Man That Has Everything is probably THE best Superman thing on video and Hearafter was amazing as well.
