@Prodagist

Not really. Air Canada currently still operates plenty of A320 and A321 ceos, so it would be a relatively easy transfer for those pilots to the new XLR's. Even after their retirement, Airbus aircraft will still make up the majority of Air Canada's narrow-body fleet, with 60 A220s and 30 A321XLR's compared to their 48 Max 8s.

So how is flying 3 1/2 hours in the wrong direction to a hub only to fly back over the airport that you started from 7+ hours before to finally go a further 5 1/2 hours to where you want to go, how is that sustainable or fuel efficient ? Please AC, reinstate the direct flight CYYT- LHR. Which an A220-300 would eat for lunch.

A small plane doing transatlantic should never be pitched as being environmentally friendly. It still wastes far more than a larger jet flying to a hub and taking train from there. Flying widebody to Paris is more efficient than flying a narrow body to Paris, one to Toulouse and one to Nice. But having 3 separate flights looks better on computer reservation systems form a marketing point of view, especial;l as Air Canada doesn't do business wth Air France or SNCF so can't offer connection from Paris to Nice, Toulouse or Marseille. Air Canada accountants won't like the 321 because they can't put coach as 7 across with narrow seats and 25" seat pitch as they would so want.

I think that some airlines have figured it out differently. Are Lingus for one will be offering more US and Canadian destinations from Ireland with the introduction of the Airbus A321XLR. I don't think they would be doing that if it wasn't profitable and if there wasn't demand.

I think before AC buys more aircraft, they should fix their inability to be on time and cancelling the majority of their flights. XLR has more range than the LR, and Airbus figured out a better way to arrange their auxiliary fuel tanks so as not to take up as much cargo space. So the XLR has better range than the LR and can hold more cargo. It's ultimately just an improvement on the LR in every way.
