The equation is [post-mitigation damage = raw damage / (1 + armor/100)]. To reduce physical damage by 25%, you need ~33 armor. To reduce physical damage by 50%, you need 100 armor. Each point of armour provides the same effective hp. The percentage has to go down or you would have 100% physical resist at like 80 armour. This is basic maths. If you have 90% all damage resist an increase in 1% is a 10% increase in durability.

After certain level, all champions have above 100 armor which makes Black Cleaver and all Last Whisper items usable and more worth than another lethality item. Cyclosword is a very good item on Ambessa for purposes of slowing because you can stack the energized attack in seconds, but Serylda guarantees that you will get that one attack off and keep the enemy permaslowed. But honestly, here I think it's just for the cooldowns and getting the most out of the gold, those items are very cost efficient.
