Those logic gates are pretty cool, if DGR knew anything about logic his mind would have been blown. 9:56 It's closer to the 2nd explanation that the offscreen chain chomp and stump doesn't have a hitbox, but it's because it hasn't been loaded yet, not that it "loses" the properties. Dark level is offscreen light sources overloading the light source limit, making the whole visible area dark. (You'd think the player's light source would have priority, but nope.)

Logic gate 101: Buffer: On is on and off is off, you can't make it simpler, lightswitches used to all be buffers NOT: On is off and off is on, inverters are usually used in fail safe, like electric locks that will open in case of outages AND: requires both inputs to be on in order to work; one, the other, or none will not OR: Either input will trigger the mechanism, both will trigger the mechanism as well, neither will stop it XOR: Aka cross gate, one or the other will work, both or neither won't, this is now the standard for lightswitches so you can couple more than one switch to a single lightsource, like stair lights since you'd want a switch on both ends Not shown here (probably because it would take too much space to showcase as they're several gates in succession): NOR: short for "not or", either will stop it, both will stop it as well, neither is the only state it will work NAND: "not and", any but both will work XNOR: "Cross not or", tho it should read "not XOR", none will work, both will work, but either will stop it, you showcased a troll level that used this logic gate before, the troll falsely made you believe you needed to choose one or the other power up when neither was the "solution", a future hint would let you know how to collect both to progress What is truly impressive about logic gates is they can be used as the basis to create computers
@fullymodeled73572 жыл бұрын
XOR stands for "exclusive OR." This is a bit more descriptive of what is happening. Each switch is exclusive of the other, i.e. only one switch can be on, but not both.

When Nintendo patches something out of the game it still works in levels that were clear checked before the patch. Even if you didn't upload it, as long as you clear check it before the patch you can upload it anytime and the glitches will still work. The only exception is the "player differences oversight" where fire characters had different trajectories, now player testers only answer Mario and "Toad only" levels are impossible.

@jake39882 жыл бұрын
Most uno mas-es rely on how mario maker works. The game has animations for basically everything that generally take a frame to happen... so if something else happens while that first thing is still happening... the game either freaks out and basically hoses itself (like with claw lick glitch)... or, like in this case with the pipe transition, it just waits until THAT animation finishes, and then completes its own animation (throwing the item since you don't have the powerup anymore). Depending on the variables that needed updating and the conflicting animations, you can get weird stuff to happen. See also: Bosses that lose their hitbox, koopalings that get into their shell and spin on the ground infinitely, etc. It's just because two completely different things happen on the same frame and the game doesn't handle it well. The rest are usually just hitboxes being stupid or very strange behind-the-scenes stuff that makes zero sense (like how random items behave in similar situations or even the same item in different places on the screen). Those you'd have to ask nintendo about. Or in the case of the uno-mas level that ends just after the 10 minute mark, that's just showing off how spawning/de-spawning works (ignore everything Dave says, he's wrong). Things in Mario Maker generally despawn when they're more than 1 'screen' away (Yoshi is a major exception to this, but even he works weirdly and I can explain that if you want) but they don't spawn initially until you're in the same 'screen'... thus the chain chomp isn't loaded yet but the shell hasn't gotten far enough away to despawn, thus it looks like it 'went through' the chain chomp.

On the second Uno Mas I can see a situation where you have to be SMB2 Mario, Grab a Big Bullet Bill, Take damage to take the Bill with you through the pipe, as soon as you come through the pipe you are given another SMB2 Mushroom as you need that bill to cross a gap. Or even having to escort the only Bill through a whole level through multiple enemies and pipe transfers just to cross a huge last gap to the pole. Meaning you have to keep becoming SMB2 and catching the Bill over and over.

Answering Dave's question, I'd say do whatever you want to help show off the jank in these levels. It was cool to see him recreate setups to see what elements may or may not be important, as well as what else you might be able to accomplish. It all fits in perfectly well with the reason the uno-mas series is popular. You could even go further with it. For instance, I was nervous he was about to bail on the dark level without beating it. In levels where you're completely perplexed by things not seen on screen, don't be afraid to pull out the level viewer to see what might be hidden. All apart of the educational process there. In this case, we at least got to see the level after it was beaten. But would have been neat to try and sort out why it was so dark. I know there are other levels where crazy mechanics were just off to the sides of the screen as well, which would have been neat to see.

dave I notice that you always are surprised when you see a glitch you thought got "patched out" in an uno mas level. The fact is almost all of those glitches did get patched out. However, as fans of ceave gaming will know, levels are uploaded in the patch they are created in. and when a new patch comes out, all those levels stay in the patch they were uploaded in. exept for a very few rare globaly patched glitches, all levels stay in the patch they were uploaded in.

the reason that the old uno mas levels still work is that the physics from when the level was clear checked are preserved for anyone who plays. If I remember correctly, in SMM2 levels uploaded are played in the version of the level itself. So, like, the old patched glitches can work as shown in the video because those levels are played in the version where those glitches were not patched. And this doesn't only works with glitches, but also some characteristics that changed during updates (such as icicles being global ground in early versions (?)). One exception for this is the characters heights... which, I think there's a video showcasing how to upload impossible level in SMM2 that involves the characters different heights.

the magic shell thing has been explained by ceave at some point. basically, if something goes offscreen, it does not immediately unload. it has to be a certain distance away before that happens. similarly, objects do not load the moment they become visible. they instead load once they come within a certain distance of the screen. the problems arise from the fact that some solid objects, such as chain chomp posts, are only loaded and therefore only solid when near the screen, and the unload distance is greater than the load distance. so the shell can pass the unloaded post before itself unloading, but then once the post loads behind it the shell seems to have passed through

I think Dave didn't get the logic gate level at all, for anyone that didn't as well (or Dave himself) here's an explanation: Logic gates are how computers work under the hood, they receive inputs and return an output, those inputs and output have only 2 possible values (on a computer, low-voltage or high-voltage, for humans, usually "0 and 1" or "true and false") The most common ones are showcased in the level, and are these: NOT gate: returns the opposite of whatever input it receives E.g. false -> true OR gate: returns true if one of the inputs is true, false otherwise E.g. true, false -> true AND gate: returns true if both its inputs are true, false otherwise E.g. true, false -> false XOR gate (eXclusive OR): returns true if only one of its inputs is true, false otherwise E.g. true, true -> false Although simple, logic gates are extremely powerful, and everything a computer can do is built out of combinations of them
