Excellent video. Someone who actually understands the yips and I love that comment at the end. "If you can find a movement which just feels good in its own sense. And enjoy the movement" - I've never looked at putting like that.

The suggestion to think about where your putting stroke should finish makes huge sense and takes the pressure away from thinking about the complete stroke. And the you throw in the idea of a completely different stroke. Awsome idea that make sense and can’t wait to try them.

Thanks Pete, that was great. I nearly always get on the green in regulation and then the dread starts as I take the putter out of the bag. Radical change in technique and mental process = enjoyable putting!

GENIUS! It is so true that when I putt I was always more focused on me and my technique than actually making the putt. I recently bought a much heavier mallet style putter with a bit longer shaft and all my putting improved immensely. Because I was now focused on letting that putter track on an arc instead of just hitting the ball. The fear of contact was gone because I don't anticipate it the way I used to.

Very interesting, I do archery as well as golfing and there’s the same phenomenon but it’s called target panic, and in shooting sports it’s trigger panic. Basically it’s a psychological behavior that sets in when you train yourself to aim at the bullseye of the target. Your body will react to you trying to do it. The way to train out of it is like you demonstrated, set your body on autopilot and focus away from the conscious aiming.

Pete I’ve tried this drill alongside the other putting grip video you did a while ago and I find I’m more confident in making putts. I find that my stroke is not breaking down nor is my holing speed because I’m focused on holing the putt rather than technique. Awesome video. Love your work! Cheers.

I have been putting with my eyes on the hole for about a year. Improved my distance control and direction. Totally recommend it. But get used to it on the practice green before trying it in a round because, at first, you may feel like you will miss the ball. However, I never had any air swings. In fact it helps me "feel" the swing of the putter head.

A thought from the first and second tip that resonate with my game, with short and long game, is that focusing my attention on recreating a practice swing whilst being over the ball allows me have some of the best strikes. My thought being focusing only on my swing and not worrying about the contact with the ball, as one would during a practice swing. With this the ball is just an small obstacle within the swings path and not the other way around. Not sure this makes sense, but it does in my head. Happy golfing everyone

I had the yips. - I rotated my top hand (rotated left for a RH) so it became really weak I keep my left wrist and hand VERY firm. This seems to remove my right (top hand) from the shot now. This stops me yipping under pressure 90% of the time.

Side saddle putting is not illegal. What Sam Snead did and what was deemed illegal was straddling the ball to putt. Side saddle or face on putting is perfectly legal as long as you don’t anchor the putter.

Interesting video Peter. Certainly an idea that resonates even if it isn’t really putting yips that I struggle with. Just focusing on attention is something that I think could also help with other areas/shots, be it the tight tee shot with bad memories or the pitch over a bunker etc.

Had a round yesterday, and thought i'd try just looking at the hole for all my putts. Seemed to improve my lag, as all im thinking about is pushing the putter through with enough force to get the ball where im looking, and not on my backswing or anything else.

Cure my Yips Sidesaddle putting is NOT illegal. What Sam Snead did that was later declared illegal was putt CROQUET style, standing with one foot on both sides of the line of the putt with the ball between his legs. An interesting note is that it is LEGAL to make a stroke croquet-style anywhere OFF the green. It's only illegal on the putting surface.

I think there's a lot to be said about the mentality of putting and taking the attention away from the impact. When you 'created your own grip' you still managed to get the ball in the hole. In no other shot in golf would you be able to achieve the outcome whilst compromising 'good technique'. Ain't nobody bombing it 300 yards with the crocodile grip! To me, this just reinforces that although techniques is important, putting is very idiosyncratic and you're much better improving your mentality with something comfortable to you than getting overly technical. I'd suggest this is very unique to putting and can't be said as much for other parts of the game as much.

Isao Aoki ... my example too when I say to people perfect technique means nothing. Glad someone else remembers him, and glad there are wise heads to crowbar out a ridiculous over technical approach to what is a 99 percent feel activity. The only positive I can find for that sort of approach is that the delusion of doing it "right" might create confidence .... and confidence creates a positive strike .... something that's everything with the short stick.

I always find myself looking at the hole annoyingly much when I play great putts/chips/pitches. When I am really in the zone and play my best I am complete fokused on the outcome (hole/flag/green). Sometimes I take one more glance DURING the backswing! I always found this annoying, but after seeing this it seems like a good thing? I dont usually do this, but it just happens subconsciously ...

I can be off directionally, but because my touch is so much better, I am close. Do I need to worry about this? Is this a legitimate way to putt?
